Lawson, 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, named Auburn his leader following a the Tigers’ Junior Day Saturday.

“It was a great visit, always is. I really love Auburn,” Lawson said. “I have to take all my other visits first but I’m really leaning towards it. I love Coach (Brian) VanGorder, love Coach (Mike) Pelton, love Coach (Gene) Chizik. It’s a great place, great town.”

Lawson wants to make a West coast visit to USC and UCLA before making a decision.

“I’ll probably make my decision after that but I’m trying to get it done before the season,” he said.

Sorry to hear that. Lawson will be an absolute beast at the next level. That combination of strength & speed to go with his size will be tough to block.

Luckily, he still has a visit to UT and hopefully that will open things back up for him. I've read on Rivals that Lawson won't be going to UGA (don't know the reason there) and that Alabama has other DL higher on their board than Lawson. I also read on Rivals that Lawson really wants to play OLB in a 3-4 defense.

If that is the case I can see why he likes Auburn, but I also think UT will give him something to think about. A player like Lawson would get immediate PT @ OLB in the 3-4 at UT. Hopefully his HS DL Coach Ritzman will get in his ear about UT and he will enjoy Junior Day on March 3rd.

Ritzman has a UT link, right? Forgive me for my ignorance, but seems like I read that somewhere.

Yes. Constantin Ritzmann played DE for UT from 1999 to 2003. He was a team captain for the 2003 season. I think he had a short stint in the NFL, but he now coaches the DL at Milton HS.

Now the rumor is Lawson won't be able to make it because of a weight lifting competition. I have no idea about his teammate Harris though. Hubbs said he expects them to make up the visit later on in the spring though.

He's participating in a weight lifting competition on Saturday.

When Sal gets a hold of him this weekend we will be right there with him. The kid doesn't much about UT right now, but he is about to if he makes it up this weekend.

Hopefully Carl Lawson has a great time with you guys this weekend. I just want him to hurry up and make the trip out to UCLA/USC so he will be ready to make a commitment soon.

per 247, Lawson isn't visitng this weekend b/c Ansley asked him to wait a few weeks. Coach Joseph was Lawsons primary recruiter but now Ansley is & he wants to build a relationship w/ him before Lawson comes up for a visit. He is now suppose to be coming up March 31st. He also said Tennessee is recruiting him the hardest right now but has Auburn as his current leader.

I like it. I wonder if people are realizing that Joseph was a very solid recruiter for us. Him departing hurts, but at least it's not even summer yet.
