'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

I like it. I wonder if people are realizing that Joseph was a very solid recruiter for us. Him departing hurts, but at least it's not even summer yet.

It's funny that with Ansley as his lead recruiter he's now being recruited the hardest by us. I think Ansley will end up as an upgrade on and off the field for us this year. Hope he proves me right on the recruiting trail.

I would say that’s a sign of what I am thinking about,” said Lawson with a laugh. “It’s true. They are No. 1 with me now. Auburn is No. 1 on my list. This trip was about my parents meeting coach (Gene) Chizik and the Auburn staff. This was the time to do that. It was a great experience for the both of them. It was an humbling experience. Lets just say that mom and dad both approve of Auburn, the program, coaches, school, the town and the people.”

Lawson's interest in the west isn't only with UCLA and USC, but he also has interest in Cal and Oregon, too.

Closer to home, Lawson has interest in Auburn, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

As a junior, Lawson earned first-team all-region and first-team all-state after racking up 80 tackles, approximately 31 tackles for loss, 15 sacks, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He was able to achieve his lofty stats even though he was constantly double teamed.

Lawson's honors aren't limited to the football field. He is also a state weight lifting champion. His current bench is 455, his squat is 535 and he cleans 315. The last time Lawson was tested in the vertical was his freshman year when he recorded an outstanding 33-inch vert.

"Lawson says that Auburn is the team to beat for his commitment.
"I like Auburn better than the rest of my other schools right now," Lawson explained. "Yes sir, they are my leader. Probably after them would be UCLA, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Florida."

I really enjoyed it. I love how Coach Pelton coaches. It was just a fun day,” Lawson said. “I can already tell he’s very experienced. He doesn’t take any messing up on plays. I really like that because it keep everybody in-line and keeps everybody straight.”

Lawson, 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds said he was impressed with Auburn’s defensive line but sees an opportunity for early playing time.

“I felt like I could come in and start. But at the same time, this is coming from the perspective of a high school player and I don’t have any college experience,” he said.

Lawson met with coach Gene Chizik before heading home.

“He’s a very kind person. I really like talking to him and enjoy it every time I come down there,” he said. “He had a chance to meet my family. I brought my stepmom and my stepbrother down here this time. Last time it was my mom. The time before that it was my Godparents and my father."

“They love Auburn but at the same time it comes down to my decision.”

Lawson said he spent time with another highly-recruited visitor, 5-star defensive tackle Montravius Adams from Dooly County in Vienna, Ga. They will have a chance to play together next January in the UnderArmour All-American game.

“I told him we were going to make a bet about who is going to get more sacks in the all-star game,” Lawson said.

Auburn has held the lead for Lawson for quite some time and that remained the same following Saturday’s visit.

“It’s almost like a home,” he said. “It’s the No. 1 place right now but at the same time, I’ve got to take other visits and see what’s out there.

“It’s the people and how much I know the coaches and everybody else but it’s a long recruiting process and you never know what will happen.”

Carl Lawson had planned to hold off on a decision until later in the recruiting process, possibly until January’s UnderArmour All-American game.

But hours after returning home from a visit to Auburn’s Junior Day, the 4-star defensive end from Milton in Alpharetta, Ga., committed to the Tigers.

“I committed to Auburn tonight,” Lawson said. “I love the people there. I love the coaching staff. I love the way they practice. I just love everything about it. I just felt like I should do it.

“...I feel real great about my decision and glad I found a home.”

“They are all just ecstatic about it,” he said. “Coach Pelton is a great coach and I love him. I just felt like Auburn is the place to be.”

Lawson, 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, chose Auburn over close to 20 other offers including Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Clemson, Nebraska, USC, UCLA, California and Missouri. He may still visit other schools.

“I’m firm with my decision but I’m still going to take some visits because my parents want me to,” he said.

Didn't Ansley ask him to put off his visit to us til later this month? Hope we didn't miss the boat on this one. But he already had auburn on top. So may not have mattered either way.

Thanks Dawgfan1973, I too think he will excel in in the 4-3 at AU. I know this is overused but he is a straight beast at DE. :)

yeah imo he is a perfect fit for the 4-3 scheme and bvg is going to love having him on the dline. with dee liner and carl lawson you guys have a very good start to your dline recruiting.

Lawson will be making all his visits so don't feel too special. :hi:

Get a girlfriend man, or at least visit the bunny ranch. I have a hard time believing an average person could be as big of a dick as you are. It's gotta be because you haven't gotten any in a long time.
Act like you are a recruit and go visit Arkansas. Might help you out.
