'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

Wasnt Dooley's responsibility to make sure DR acted like he had some sense.

Last time I'm commenting on this. I don't understand how you guys don't see my point in saying it is partly Dooley's fault. Recruits come to schools for family atmospheres, the head coach is a father figure to these kids, they are looking for an example to follow whether they realize it or not. I don't think Dooley was a good example and I think it showed.

You need to build close relationships especially with your star players. Letting them know the example that they need to set for others. Letting them know the responsibility they have. I just don't feel like Dooley ever did that.

But it's whatever. It's obviously more of Daricks fault, but you can't not put some blame on Dooley as well.

There was talk coming out of the summer that Lawson was the best player on the circuit. He followed that with a stellar season, making the talk even louder. The only knock against Lawson has been his size, but he has shown that not to be a limitation. Seeing Lawson and the current top-ranked player, Robert Nkemdiche, side by side will help put the argument to rest.

I definitely think the coach gets some blame. The coach has a big impact on kids. And with star players he should be making extra efforts to build a great relationship and always making sure the player knows how important he is to the team and how he needs to make sure to be doing the right things off the field an setting a good example. I don't think Dooley was doing that with anybody bc I don't feel Dooley set a good example himself.

That's just my opinion though. It wasn't even the focal point of my comment. Can we get back to Lawson? :peace:

Kids have to taker responsibility for themselves at some point. No way you can blame this on any coach. Do you expect full time babysitters? There's an old expression-- you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. These athletes have all sorts of opportunities and help available to them but if they don't choose to make wise decisions, it's on them, not on a coach.

We have no chance at RN. Its probably better that way because it seems he will bring some baggage wherever he lands. Id rather have Lawson.

Oh I agree and fully aware of the situation. We've been on the cusp with Lawson all season. We've never been anywhere on RNs crazy train ride which I'm glad of.

My "please" was more trying to bring some manners to the board. Obviously didn't come off that way.

Maybe you, but the two posts above me seemed pretty "glad" that we aren't in on RN.

What r u talking about?? Reach much?? Have u missed RNs recruitment???? Cause it has been a crazy ride for those on it. Which I'm glad we have had nothing to do with. That doesn't mean that I wouldn't be happy with his abilities and talent in orange.

I have actually followed his recruitment pretty closely, as I have a friend that plays for Ole Miss. However, regardless of his baggage, I don't think anyone should be happy we never had a chance with him. I thought that's what you were saying. Apparently it wasn't, so I apologize. :hi:

Some will tell you it's the other way around. RN's negative is that he has used his influence to get his boys scholly's. Lawson has been rumored to have a bit of an attitude problem. I believe he was sent home from a Nike Summer camp because of it.

Really appreciate what all you bring to the board, SCt.

I'm pretty sure he got sent home from the opening but it wasn't because of discipline reasons, I could be wrong though. I did hear one story about someone taunting him so he spit in the guy's pizza, but he was provoked.

Carl is basically a quiet person. In the few games I saw, he never celebrated after a sack or big play. He plays with determination and at the same time is big on respect. Everyone was surprised to hear that report in the camp. I think he may have been frustrated to learn the Georgia HS athletic association would not allow him to participate because he had already been to several camps.

Lawson has handled his recruitment very very maturly and I love players with his personality, talk softly but carry a big stick. He let's his performance do his trash talk. He isn't a discipline issue at all imo.

Yeah with the exceptiong of the Opening incident he has never had any issues. He has played with a chip on his shoulder on the field. No one paid attention to him at all and the knock on him was he only looked good at camps. AU jumped on early and reaped the benefit from it, which is why it will be hard to flip him and he has so much loyalty to AU. Most programs including UA showed him very little interest. I believe AU was the first big school to offer and he took it pretty quick with the verbal to AU.
