'13 GA DE Carl Lawson (Auburn commit)

As a UA fan like most the only concern we have had with AU is on the recruiting trail. And not talking about anything illegal because whatever they do I am sure everyone is doing. But the current AU staff can recruit, but on the field they have not been a concern except for when they had Cam. Now some of that comes from replacing the staff with new OC and DC, which means changing the style of play with players recruited for other styles, but CGC is just not that good of a coach.

Now Jimbo I think could win at AU and big. Especially with his ability to recruit. My only concern there is Trooper I think is very shady and yes recruits with no concern but Craig may have him topped if all the rumors are anywhere close to the truth. And I have heard AU fans say the same, but he is an AU alum and would go with Jimbo.

Jimbo would be a great hire for AU. With UF coming back it will hurt FSU on the recruiting trail instate and they always seem to come up short with a loss in conference. Not saying he would come but it would make AU dangerous. One of the best recruiting staffs moving to AU in the SEC would make things real interesting in the SEC and AL. UA and AU both are having to deal with them instate. It would be better than Petrino and an upgrade for Jimbo.

I agree on CDD sticking around, plus I doubt UT will jump quickly if they were to replace him. I think they will try and find the perfect fit for the program no matter how long it took. I think if CDD beats USC and/or gets to a bowl game he gets another year. Hart maybe new to UT but him and CDD are friends.JMO

Makes sense. :hi: I think Hart is using Bama as the standard for the SEC and comparing our program to theirs. After Saturday, he saw that compared to the standard, we are not even close. Yeah, we may have been much improved in the other bigger games we played before Bama and battled teams for 4 quarters with a chance to win. However, we needed to play like that against Bama and we weren't even close to doing that. I am guessing that is why all these rumors are circulating about DD's job status...Hart doesn't see any improvement compared to the standard; therefore, that is unacceptable to him, and he knows it is time to make the push to get someone that gets this program back to competing against the very best in the SEC and the country. JMO. I would be ok with giving DD another year if he won out (including today), although I agree with so many that I just see a lot of lack of coaching out there on the field. Hart is going to make the best move that gets the program back to the top ASAP.

What I read is that some on the old guard(boosters and BoT members) are in a power struggle with with some of the new guard. Which may not help AU finding the best coach out there.

I agree that there is a power struggle within the BoT and power structure about the coaching change and direction of the athletic program. I think at the crux of the matter is how those entities view AU and the world in general. One side cites the AU creed and opines that our moral compass is better than other schools and hiring Petrino is not in keeping with that belief. The other side believes in a win at all cost mentality, damn the blowback and hire Petrino.

In the end, I believe we have an outstanding fanbase that supports the team through good times and bad, but not much different than others around the SEC. My personal opinion is that Petrino is the best option, but not the only option. I think either Charlie Strong or Jimbo Fisher would be a good choice as well.

Never understood the hire of CGC but I think AU will get a very good coach as well as UT in the end if both programs go in that direction. Both have tradition, talent to build on, and both are in the SEC.

To think Rich Rodriguez turns down UA and 1 month later we get Saban. Cray things happen in CFB.

Another name to watch for when talking about coaching changes in the SEC is Cutcliffe. I know he did not fair well at Ole Miss but who does. I just read a great article about how Manning went to him when he was ready to come back to the NFL. Manning lived with him and trained with him at Duke. By the way Duke is now eligible for bowl a for the 1st time since 1995.

I have seen Cutcliffe's name in the mix, as well as Malzahn and Taggart's. Auburn is well situated for good/excellent recruiting. Chizik did expand the recruiting map in places like Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware.

Cutcliffe did suceed at Ole Miss. He took them to the Cotton Bowl and had a sub par season a year later. Ole Miss, in their infinite wisdom, decided to fire Cutcliffe and hire Orgeron...setting the program back at least five years

Orgeron sold them on he was going to make Ole Miss the USC of the South. Sounds like what Kiffin was kicking us.

I did not mean he was a failure just a hard job to try and meet that fanbases expectations. But I think he would do well as a HC in the SEC.

UF being back would not hurt FSU on the recruiting trail at all. thats just false.
FSU will always be able to recruit in their home state.

they did it when UM and UF were Both at their peaks, and will continue to do so now and in the future.

UA making a push now. I know his father has a good relationship with one of our coaches. CLT was on the staff at GT when Lawson's father played there. I doubt UA has a shot but it seems a lot of teams smell blood in the water regarding AU recruits and are starting to push hard now.

He has yet to make any decisions about any visits and says he will not comment on his recruitment at this point.

States that he is just as committed to the Barn now as he has ever been. Realizes that the team is facing some hard times and that he is motivated to get on the field for them quicker. He emphasizes the importance of the class at the Barn to stick together.

wow. if changes come at the end of the season for us, i hope our guys are like that. nowadays there are hardly any kids like that

Lawson had seven tackles (4 solo), two tackles-for-loss, two sacks and four quarterback hurries in a 49-7 win over Cherokee. On the season, Lawson has 65 tackles (41 solo), 13 tackles-for-loss, 21 sacks and 12 quarterback hurries.

The problems at AU have to have AU fans not happy and when dealing with recruits and trying to convince their families that your school is the best place has to be hard when the school has to hire private security to enforce nightly curfews.

AUBURN - The Auburn football program has contracted with a private security firm to help enforce player curfews, an official with the company confirmed to The Advertiser.

Stanley Dallas, the Auburn Regional Manager of the Event Operations Group, confirmed members of his staff are working in conjunction with members of Auburn’s football player development department to “enforce” player curfews throughout the week.

I'm not against curfews....but a season long curfew seems absurd and one that makes no exceptions for holidays or big student events is just overly punitive. There are a ton of kids that had done nothing wrong.

Several AU people screaming that we needed more discipline...you are right, we did. The problem is that our staff is reactionary....and security guards and curfews were reactions to events that needed to have been prevented. You prevent kids from getting into trouble by making an impact on the way they think early in their time at an university. You set the tone with them by the way you run the program, the way you talk to them and the things you talk to them about. You set expectations that they know they must reach or else....both on and off the field. Discipline isn't the punishment always...it's getting to them before they do anything to deserve the punishment. The best teams in the country don't need a year long curfew because their players understand what they need to do and to avoid trouble (for the most part). Those coaches have made an impact on their kids.

Chizik isn't getting that part done IMO and hasn't ever. We're not making any kids better kids. We failed Mike Dyer. We failed a lot of these kids. Dyer might have gotten set on a better path elsewhere....he really had no chance under these guys at AU. We let him get away with issue after issue and lightly punished each....never once really getting to the core of the problem and we were incapable of getting through to him. The "good kids" who behave at AU....they were good kids when they got here. The kids that hit the weights the hardest....they were doing it harder than anyone else before they got here. Kids that are living in their playbook or studying a ton of extra film....they were already that kind of kid. Our staff is failing at getting through to kids. Just utterly failing.
