'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

Not sure how anyone can feel confident with Henry. Even if we won it was going to be tough to pull him. jmo

I dont think winning or losing has a lot to do with it in some cases. They want to see how close we are, what kind of competition they will be having at their position, that kind of stuff. Henry couldve been sitting in the stands thinking "they are one good back away from being complete. The backs they have now are average at best. I could have 100,000+ screaming my name..."

not saying we get him, just saying losing might not have been that big a factor.

Might not be too far from the truth, although we looked better.

Yeldon is 6'2 and weighs 216 which is not exactly a scat back.

He is not a 250 lb short yart bruiser either. Lacy seemed to get the short yardage carries saturday and actually did well, so i guess he will get the bulk of those carries going forward.

Is Henry actually 243+ pounds? That's crazy if legit. Fullback size with tailback speed.

“Alabama is still in the front, but Tennessee made me think this weekend. I’m going to sit down and talk to my coaches and my family, and then we’ll see.”

He seems really impressed with the UT staff and the team. Also thinks UT is on their way back. Said the outcome was never a concern. He only came to watch how the RBs were used and what UTs need is at RB. Plans on visiting UA this weekend and make a decision next week.

The Vols need this kid. Unless the Vols can get a consistent running game in place, beating good SEC teams will continue to be a struggle.

Sounds like a close second to me. Especially after they get through with the meat of the schedule.

UT may get him because Alabama doesn't need a running back. Bama will play 90 running backs in yall game.

I'm no expert, but when I watch Le'Veon Bell at Michigan St I can help but think his style must be similar to Henry's. If so that would be stellar, Bell just abuses defenders.......and that's without the help of a passing game.

logic says he should be a vol they need him more and they are far more likely to keep him at RB dont know what saban is selling him on TE/HB/RB idk

but if i was him and want to play rb next yr in the sec im pickin tenn over bama

Henry has the ability to run over you but at this point he seems to have more of a finesse style of running. He would rather dance around and get to the outside than just hitting the hole with power.

I was watching Vernon Davis last night and could not help but compare the two. Sure do hope we get him and he turns in to that type athlete.

I have some awesome news I hope anyway. At the vol walk on Saturday I was just standing there and I seen a undergrad admissions girl ( recruit escort) and nick glass they were just talking about Darick Rogers actually and why he left and then just after the Derrick Henry walked by, and Nick Glass told his dad " there is that big time running back from yulee" and they started to talk about him. I was just kind of ease dropping but guys I'm 100% sure without a doubt in my mind that Nick Glass said that Derrick Henry is coming to UT because " his main other choice is alabama and they said they will only take him as a linebacker, and he said he is strictly a running back" it sounded awfully promising to me. Also I sit in Y9 row 4 and I have a video of them fixing to run out of the T and half the players stopped and talked to Henry and shook his hand. It was so awesome. I'll be happy to email the video to anyone that wants to see it. Just shoot me a message. Justin623069@yahoo.com

If we pulled Henry then others will follow. Other prospects look at him as a star. I can't remember which article but one visitor said they were all just staring at him cuz he was huge and big prospect

No offense but I will disagree with this. Not saying that Henry will not pick UT because he may well but it will not have anything to do with playing LB at UA. Unless Henry has lied to the public over and over. When Henry came to UA camp the coaches talked to him about playing HB/TE besides RB. Afterwards he stated his main focus was on RB and has stated over and over that is all UA is recruiting him for. Unless you can find one quote from Henry stating UA is only recruiting him as LB this is completely wrong and there has never been any quote only rival fans saying that to justify why he should not pick UA. Who knows he may end up there but that is not what he believes from the UA staff right now.

Plain and simple, if Henry picks UT it is because he believes he can come in as a true freshman and play while helping take UT to the next level. It has nothing to do with another program not wanting him, having to many RBs already, being afraid of competition, or recruiting him for a different position. If Henry picks UT it is because the UT staff did a great job on recruiting him, he believes in UT, and UA along with everyone else just got beat out for him. No other reason.:hi:

I think it has been clear for a while that Henry favors Bama and would pick Bama if it were not for the "other position" talks. When coaches come at you as a 5 star RB asking if you would consider playing LB or TE it is going to stick in your mind. If Henry felt 100% that Bama would not try and move him to another position, I think he would have already picked them. The CHANCE that they move him is what has him on the fence and could possibly get him to Tennessee.

TW said in his above post that Saban talked to him about playing other positions and then right after that said they were only recruiting him as a RB. Mention the position change to a kid who is not interested in it, and you have put doubt in his head of your plans for his future.

The coaches talk to Henry about playing other positions and when he came to camp they looked at him in several positions and only on offense not LB. Before he left camp he spoke with the coaches and said his main focus is on RB and wants 1st shot there but would consider moving if RB did not work. That was Henry saying that. Since then he has stated over and over that UA is only recruiting him at RB. But if the position change was still a concern UA would still not be leading as of yesterday.

Regarding his decision he said in July that his HC and school wanted to do something big for his announcement. He tried to set something up with ESPN for his HSFB game but for whatever reason that has changed.

Again UT has done a great job recruiting Henry and I truly believe that UT has given him a lot to think about. The longer window for making a big announcement has helped UT out, how much we will find out next week. If UT lands Henry it may be the best recruiting job the UT staff has done on such a high profile recruit.
