'13 FL RB Derrick Henry (Bama commit)

He's an EE.

Which means he has to make up his mind by around mid-December -- still plenty of time.

I still like our chances with both Henry and Kamara. That does not mean we will get both or even that we will definitely get even one of them, but to my mind, we have a pretty good chance to get both if Tennessee plays well and wins games this year. We can offer each of them a better chance of early playing time than 'Bama, Ga, or Florida.

henry measured at 6'3 this summer. Kamara would be a better fit for UT offense simply because of his running style and ability in space. One thing that makes it tough for UT regarding Kamara is the fact that the coaches cant tell Kamara that he wont get PT at UGA because he knows thats not true with their situation.

This is true, but I really believe that our coaches sell UT and what UT has to offer. I have never gotten the sense from any quotes from recruits that we try to sell what other schools can't offer.

While this statement may be currently true, our offense, or any good offense, will always play to its strengths. Blanket statement IMO.

I thought these were interesting:

Sparq combines
Derrick Henry:
4.45 40 4.15 Shuttle 41.3 Vert
Alvin Kamara
4.55 40 4.28 Shuttle 39.1 Vert

Not trying to downplay Kamara, jut highlight the fact that Derrick Henry is an incredible athlete at 6'3" 240.

It is my opinion that, while most are compelled to think that Henry will outgrow the position because it is atypical for a player of his size and stature given his age to simply stop growing, Henry is unrepresentative of the norm and the numbers above reiterate that. He's a freak of nature.

Too often we try to figure out what will be rather than enjoying what is.

Beast.

I would have no issue watching Henry in orange carrying the ball from the RB position dragging 2 LB's and a CB 9 yards about 22 times a game. Call me simple minded. I would leave the kid at RB and let him eat.

exactly. people the size of doug flutie dont normally play qb or football at all, people lebrons size normally arent that athletic, people as tall as spud webb normally cant dunk. there are always exceptions to the rule. not saying henry definitely will be but stranger things have happened. i desperately want him to come here and be a RB. i love the big backs that just abuse defenses. jacobs, peterson, bettis ron dayne in college. guys like that.

TOS says he's set to announce his commitment at a presser in Yulee some time in August.

The announcement will take place in August via a press conference at Yulee High School (FL). Henry has not set the exact date.

Hey do you have a link to this per chance
gator

If not, by all means gtfo

I think it depends on if the guy is done growing yet. If not its going to be tough for him to stay at RB. Just my opinion. But there is a reason you don't see many guys his size playing RB (other than Brandon Jacobs who wasn't good enough to be one of the top two backs at auburn albeit he was behind two great ones). With his athleticism he may be an exception tho bc he is definitely freakishly explosive for someone that size. I just don't think it's a given that he stays at RB.

Very good point. Most RBs aren't that big because most people that big aren't that athletic.

Please be august 10th :loco:

Actually, I think if the date is somewhere near the 31st...like @ 27th-30th...then he's a Vol. I've said it in another thread, but I get the sense that DD is setting up maybe anywhere from 2-4 BIG commitments in August to generate some buzz and excitement with the fanbase right before the season begins. No inside info...just a gut feeling...could be gas too. :)

So if he produces at Bama at RB he won't stay there?

everyone around here is saying if he goes to Bama then he won't be a fulltime RB and possibly moved to LB or TE because of their depth at RB. I personally don't think depth at any position will stop a guy like Henry from seeing the field at Bama, or anywhere. I want him to be a Vol, but Bama is not a "bad" option for the high school senior.

Finally someone that I can agree with. Many posters are using Henry to anywhere but RB at UA to help justify and convince themselves it pushes Henry away from UA. BUt in reality if he is as good as advertised he will not have a concern at RB at UA. If not and he can not make the depth chart 3rd or 4th string at UA, good luck to wherever he goes. Which I doubt will be the case.

I hope it is Aug 24th. Only because him and D Walker have become friends. Henry announces the other day that he may announce around the Aug 20th or so and D Walker moves his announcement back to Aug 24th now.:)
