As a Sophomore Zanca claimed he was 6'2, 205lbs. Now he claims he is 6'3, 230lbs

I saw them play a couple games the last 2 years but only to see Tom Smith in 2010 and last year to see their RB Tion Green .

Zanca maybe more like 215 right now

He struggled vs APK but he was really young and APK O was pretty sick

the other game I was just watching Tion bc was told how nasty he was and he didnot disappoint. He for 200+ yards. pretty sure he signed with Cinci. he's like Isiah Pead Clone

edit
(I always thought we should have been going hard after Tion Green too)

Tennessee is his only major offer right now. It's natural that we lead ATP.

This is probably a slow-play type of recruit. Throw the early offer out there and use that to our advantage down the road if needed. Or we could take the commit now and pull an Imani Cross.

Gotta say,,,I was not overly impressed by his Jr film. The kid just did not stand out. He made some good tackles, arm tackles, great contain, showed good speed off the ball, but just didn't appear to have the slobber factor. OTOH, if Coach Dooley & Co. made an offer, they must see something in the kid. His 40 time is slow but he appeared plenty quick to be around the ball.

We may be doing the same thing we did with Khalid Henderson last year. Offer him and see if he pans out the way we want him to. If not, then no take. Still, I hope he does. Add about 20lbs of muscle and a face tattoo and the kid would look bada$$

I asked Chris Nee his thoughts on Zanca. His response:

"Very good at shedding blocks. Takes most direct route to ball. Good, not great, speed. Very physical off the snap and on tackle." - Nee

that was spring of his Sophmore year.

I understand that Jay. Not trying to hate on the kid.

But IMO, I still think those numbers and measureables are bad. Even for a sophomore.

I think his film is solid and I understand there are HUGE progressions made in speed, strength, and size between a prospect's sophomore to senior years.

But, Zanca personally would have to make freakishly large gains to be considered an elite LB.

I hope he makes a great LB for somebody one day, and I'm sure he will.

But I'm greedy. I'm still pissed off about what happened in regard to UT's LB recruiting last cycle. I wasn't happy about it in early February and I still have the bad taste in my mouth over what happened concerning Dalton Santos and Otha Peters. UT got stuck with King, Bynum, and probably DE convert LaTroy Lewis at LB last cycle. Nothing personal against them, but that LB core isn't getting UT to any championship level.

UT needs to really, really start strong and close strong with LBs in this 2013 recruiting class. I'm talking studs. And so far UT has. UT has gotten into great position with elite LB prospects such as Dorian O'Daniel, Yannick Nkgakoue, and Ben Boulware. UT has Vereen commited and I think he is going to be solid. Also, Matt Rolin and Ryne Rankin are solid LBs. Not to mention DE prospects such as Herron and Hatcher that could play 3-4 OLB/JACK type positions.

According to Cody McKee, Zanca is visiting soon and he REALLY likes Tennessee. He says to watch for some news.
