With that #50 he will look like an old school baller. Hopefully he plays like one. Think this guy will be a good one.

Just the other day I was remembering when Leonard Little played the hybrid DE/LB role, and how disruptive it was when he would switch positions after the O-line was set.

Hopefully this young man can bring that same element, I'm tired of offenses confusing our D, it should be the other way around.

I like this kid. Classy, mature young man. Will be a fan favorite before his time is up IMO.

Corey is now up to 240 lbs. He is already gaining a lot of respect from current players on the team for the way he works out and the way he goes about his business.

He was bragging the other day, because he beat Crump in an arm wrestling match.

This guy will be the steal of the class.

My guess is he plays MLB and plays it well. Will need AJ to declare to start, but he could rotate in as a 4th/5th LB at MLB or SLB this year IMO.

Can't wait to go back to this 4-3!

AJ is not MLB material. No coverage skills whatsoever. You could hide him with the four linebacker set, but if we go back to 4-3, he needs to be DE. Not going to be a great rush end, but he will be on an island if he stays in the middle. Just my opionion

AJ Johnson?

Agreed we are much better with the 4-3 defense

I follow former Vol Stephen White on Twitter. He once said the 3-4 is more about the athletes and you better have excellent ones or it will fail. The 4-3 is more about the system and it's easier to have an excellent D without excellent talent. Personnel driven system vs. Process driven system.

AJ Johnson will likely excel as a MLB in the 4-3. His instinct is to run to the ball and make plays. The 3-4 asks ILB's to play gaps and assignments. He struggled badly with that. It also asks them to play more man to man coverage than the 4-3 where they almost never play anything but the middle zone. Maggitt OTOH does not appear to have the coverage skills to play outside LB in the 4-3. He could very well end up playing a rush end.

If you are looking for guys with the measureables to play OLB in the 4-3 in the SEC... that looks like a VERY short list. King maybe once he drops the weight the last staff had him gain. Brewer. Sapp. Maybe a handful of others... but no one that just makes you feel warm all over.

AJ is not an outside pass rusher nor a DE smh.

He is a run stuffing MLB that needs to work on laterally moving. If he works on that he's the #1 LB taken in the 2014 NFL Draft IMO (if he declares).

Nice assessment. I forgot about Brewer. He is a man-child but will he ever find his niche. He didn't even play much last season did he? I know he can hit, but we need him to be active.

has anyone heard from cv or any info on how he is doing his first month in the system. i am from hi home town and routing him on ......

I don't know if I would go that far.

I can't think of an nfl Rb or te aj could cover in the nfl on a pass play. He's already proven it in the sec. Makes a lot of tackles 10 yards downfield tho. Tough but slow

I would. The dude can ball.

If you look at tape from Wilcox's defense you can see his potential. Then fast forward to Sal's and he was out of place and no one knew what the hell was going on.

Anyone can hate all they want but I stand by my thought.

I don't know much about football defensive allignments. But having watched UT football the last two years, I'd say this guy pretty much nailed it.

The only thing he may have missed was adding, "the 3-4 is more about the athletes and you better have excellent ones and a defensive coordinator with half a brain or it will fail."
