Forget 2013. From the 2011 and 2012 classes, which guys do you think weren't SEC level players? Who are all these guys that were not good?
Because when I scroll through those classes, I don't see many guys that were bad pick-ups. Particularly keeping in mind that a lot of those kids haven't gotten the chance to play their best football yet.
For me, I didn't like desperation adding Bourque, I didn't like dropping Cross for Hill, and I hated losing Peters. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints with the 2012 class.
2011 - I didn't like the Izzy Lanier offer because he clearly couldn't hack it in the classroom. I would have preferred to land a more highly rated lineman than Posey, but we'll see what he does the next couple years. And I didn't care for the Tom Smith offer because he wasn't getting love from any of the big time schools in FL.
Devrin Young was one.
Cody Blanc was another.
D.Arnett wasn't a good WR and you could see that on his film.
A.Hill is another guy we shouldn't have offered.
Going after 2-3 LBs per class was stupid.
Where are the impact secondary players?
What about the impact front seven guys?
I liked Tom Smith coming out he just dropped too much weight for his style of play.
The coaches never self scouted their own team and said hey we've got to shore up this area. Mo Couch, Izzy Lanier, and B.Moore had no excuse for not being in shape when they got to campus. Our coaches recruited them to play Day 1. They also should've known if either would be able to help immediately when they scouted them. Our jucos compared to Bama's juco players are much much different in level of play. Jesse Williams and Mo Couch came out the same year. One dominates while the other can barely be seen on Saturdays for us. The last staff just was a circus with Dooley being the clown that was running the show.
Arnett is ridiculous. I have no idea what your complaint is there - everyone said he was a great route runner and had fantastic hands. He was a 4* on every service and had offers from everywhere.
As far as impact secondary players, they landed Randolph, McNeil, Moore, and Bonner. Martin and Orta were both highly recruited. Gray looks like he's got potential, and you raved about Coleman coming out of high school. It's not like they ignored the secondary just because some of these guys didn't pan out.
I don't even know what to say about your JUCO complaint because I don't understand what point you're trying to make.
As far as offers to DY, Blanc, Kendrick, Smith - I like them. I think it's smart to have 1-2 local guys that bleed orange and know the history as built in recruiters every weekend you have OVs and unofficials. I don't think it hurts your overall talent level, and I think Blanc has the potential to be a nice player for UT.
But from what I see, you named 4 guys out of what, 50-55? If the staff was doing so poorly in evaluating talent, where are all the offers that you disagreed with at the time?
Arnett wasn't going to be anything. Never liked him at WR. I really thought he was overrated like crazy coming out. And he wouldn't be playing anywhere with decent WRs.
Forgot about garbage Martin who was terrible and too slow from the get go. I liked Bonner, Coleman, Gray, and McNeil as pickups. Moore was one I thought would be better. But that's 5 guys out of the secondary pickups.
BTW: I raved about Gray coming out of HS more than the others.
Where are the LBs again? Because after I brought Crump and Sapp in my first year then I would brought 6-7 LBs in the very next year.
This local kid offer BS thought process needs to go. Guys like Young and Blanc(unless he was playing defense I guess) should've never been offered. If you can't play at this level don't expect a sympathy offer. Watson was another sketchy offer even though he has real speed. Guys like A.Sanders/V.Wharton that bleed Orange are who I want. Not these local jokers that can't win ball games.
The recruiting wasn't terrible but it wasn't on the level it needs to be to win a NC at UT. That's all I want period. All these talks of I hope we win 8-9 games out of fans is crazy. Nine games a year tops is a joke at UT and shouldn't be accepted.

The point on Arnett is that almost everyone thought he was going to be player, including most of the top programs. May or may not happen.
You know what happened at LB .... whiffs. 2011 we brought in AJ, Curt, and Harris. Not a bad start, but the killer was missing with Lamar Dawson on signing day. That would have been a fantastic haul. In 2012, we lost Santos and Peters just before signing day. Losing does that. Besides, we had needs all over the field. Loading one class with 6-7 LBs would have been neglecting other needs.
I think Dooley did a pretty good job overall with recruiting. You act as if he A) should only have pursued top talent, and B) that he didn't even try. Neither of those is true.
Butch won a NC at UNC? Saban went 8-4 his first year, which allowed him to recruit at a NC level and win it 3 years later. Just like I said.
The team he had before the agent scandal was going to dominate on defense. Had just as many good players as the Bama and LSU defenses did last year. They were loaded. His Miami teams would smash Saban's Bama squads and it wouldn't be close. He's the best talent evaluator in the country.
this, dooley can't recruit. You can try to twist it and spin it all you want.Dooley wasn't going to flip any prospects if he had finished this class off. We wouldn't be about to flip Lawson either. Yeah he liked Sunseri but I doubt he would've pulled him. What other high profile guys would he pull that we lost out on? North, Green, JRM, Carr, Koehler, Vereen and Harris were going to be his high profile guys. We need DBs but he was losing both high profile in-state guys to out of state programs. He lost Kam Miles and I didn't see anyone on the horizon that would've helped fill the void. No one wanted to play for a loser like Dooley. As soon as Butch got here a completely different level athlete were started to be offered. Especially on the edge(offensive and defensive). Dooley was terrible and I hate I supported that clown for as long as I did.
Saban did it at LSU man. Don't act like he's the only coach that can do it either. Butch Davis did it too at UNC and Miami.
Lol. Maybe that's because it's Louisiana...
What did Butch Davis ever win with that talent?
Dooley could recruit pretty well. I think it would look a lot better if he could coach worth a damn and get 8-9 wins to his record.
Alas, you and I won't agree on this. You were a big Dooley pumper before this season willing to defend anything about UT. Now what? Comical.
Maybe I stopped making excuses for that idiot. I've used actual facts versus Dooley. Butch Davis should've played for the NC at Miami(BCS fxcked him after they beat FSU head to head). Pretty well won't get it done here. I'm glad he's gone and not embarassing UT anymore.....
