'13 CA TE Chauntez Jackson (decommitted from UT, committed to Houston)

Anyone seen any public comments from this kid about the coaching change??

I think this is a pretty good athlete and could develop into a nice weapon in passing game..

Does anyone know if Coach Jones' offense utilizes a TE much and if so how much??

This kid has the measurables and his film is pretty impressive.. I think the guy could contribute on Defense but just curious to know more about the kid and his situation from someone who knows more about him and how he would fit..

This year Cincinnati's leading receiver was a TE, so Jones will use them in his offense.

That's good to know.. I think that this kid could be a good one.. I have also been wondering about whether Jason Croom will still make the move to TE now..

I am interested to know how multiple their offense is typically.. Do they use multiple TE sets at all??

Someone ask Hubbs and Co. if the new coaches have contacted Jackson. I have reason to believe they have not.

anybody think he would get a look at WDE if we can get another TE? He has the height and looks to have the speed. Just a thought

The kid is a straight up "affalete" . He has great size and speed. I really want AJ Bransiel, and either Woody or Vandenburg at TE in this class. We need 2 TEs IMO.

“It’s kind of like their old staff, except they run the spread,” Jackson said. “They’re friendly guys, but I just don’t think they’ll have use for me up there. I’m still committed. I stay strong with Tennessee, but I don’t want to get up there and they don’t have any use for me. If I feel something is gonna go wrong, then I might have to change my direction, but for right now, I’m staying strong with Tennessee.”

The two main options for Jackson right now per the article are Oregon State and Houston. Houston is the one to watch, for Jackson stated that one of their assistants knows Jackson's current HS coaches and such. They used to play together.

Jackson further stated that the old staff was like family for him. He felt like with them here, he wouldn't feel homesick if he came to UT. Elder has already been out to see him, and it was just a greeting really.

Sounds promising...

He sticks if we show we want him. I just don't know if that's going to be the case given the other TEs we've offered or have become interested in since the new staff arrived.

I'd offer him as an athlete...looks great at DE...seems like the type of guy you'd want as a coach?

I was wondering this as well. Would he get a look at DE, seems like he has a lot of potential all over the field, not just at TE.

I may be in the minority, but I prefer Quinn of all the TE's we are looking at.

I agree, if Quinn can catch a football I think he could be special at the position.

Quinn and Jackson could be a great class imo, Quinn seems a little more finess and Jackson could be a little more powerful. In the mold of Hernandez/Gronk haha I wish...

This sounds about right. Whether the mesh that way when they get here is a different story though.

And how we implement TE's in the offense. I wouldn't mind going all Patriots where one week we use 2 TE's, another week we run it, another week we spread it out and pass it. With the amount of speed on defenses in the SEC, we gotta beat them by confusing the hell out of them (something the Patriots do beautifully)

The versatility they have is astounding. They can throw a 2 TE set out there with Hernandez and Gronk and do absolutely anything they want on offense. From a 2 TE big set and power run, or spread both TE's out wide and run an empty backfield set. That's why the no huddle works so well, once they find a matchup they like they can keep that personel on the field and go to whichever set they think is most effective plus they can change it on the fly.

I put this in the January visits and it might already be in here, if so I apologize. Jackson is visiting on the 18th. Good news if you like him like I do.

Reading his quotes I would assume we might very well cancel his visit on the 18th if we get a guy or two ahead of him.
