Because Crayton is not an SEC caliber player. I dont know why this is so hard to comprehend. Look past his "4 star" status. Crayton is like 5'11, 6ft tops with short arms. He also offers little to no explosiveness. What you're left with is a grossly undersized DL who is nothing more than a space-eater. Crayton is a good kid, but he simply does not profile as a BCS conference type player. Auburn signed a "4-star" player very similar to Crayton a few years back named Jamar Travis...he's graduating this year and did virtually nothing his entire career. Just didn't have the physical tools or athleticism to compete.

Why is it so hard to believe that Cothren is a much better prospect? He is a much better athlete with a much better physical frame. The offer list itself paints all you need to know.

Because you're judging someone based off of what someone else did. The premises doesn't validate your conclusion. Its a weak argument. Someone else his same size sucked so he's going to suck. So I say he sucks. Hmm.

I understand your "guess" is as good as mine. Much the same way I can't say 100% every offer is good today, you can't say they are not.

Selective offer list confirmation. It is what it is I guess.

That's why Rivals is a guideline, not gospel. Sometimes they update offers, sometimes not. Sometimes they add offers that aren't real if the athlete says they have one. Sometimes things aren't as they seem.

I never said he sucked. I said he wasn't an SEC caliber player. Which should be obvious considering that no SEC team is seriously interested in signing him, yet people online cant look past his "4 star" ranking.

Crayton has serious physical limitations. I used Jamar Travis as a comparison because he was a similar player, 4-star rankling and all, who suffered the same physical limitations. I'm not sure if you're aware, but the SEC is the end-all, and be-all of college football. The closest thing of the NFL. Name me the list of 5'11, short arm, average explosiveness DTs who have made an impact in this, or any other upper level NCAA conference over the past decade? There is no list because that physical profile is a death-wish for a DL. At that height you can get by if you have elite athleticism and quickness...unfortunately Crayton has none of those attributes.

Crayton's physical limitations make him a mid-major caliber recruit. It is what it is.

The kid (Rod) has been great on HS level, but he has no upsides except for at the NG position. There is only a few teams in the SEC that run a 3-4 that need a space eater and those teams have their pickings of who that want at NG.

We dont know how good he will be but most of these SEC teams are not going to take a risk on a kid that is limited to a certain scheme when there is so many other kids that have scheme versatility.

Cothren has been no where near as dominant but he has alot more upsides and scheme versatility of the 2.

Cothren is getting these offers late because these teams feel they will miss on the guys higher on the board but im sure most educated fans on here knew that.

I agree the services are just a guideline. I don't agree that someone can determine who's offer list is legit(committable) and who's is not. For all we know RC could have committed at any time to any one of the (6) SEC offers he had. Maybe he was leaning toward UT and waited. His waiting and the staff change could have left him in a bad spot as teams have filled up at DT. Strong, Productive, Determined. Those traits alone would be enough for me to take a chance on the kid.

Cothren is going to stick to his Penn State commitment. Has decided not to take any more visits.
