'12 TX LB Dalton Santos (Texas Commit)

You have to make reaches to say he can't coach... just not this stupid.

We will all have a really good idea if he can coach after this fall. For the first time, he will have a roster that should be capable of winning some significant games.

Not gonna argue with the homerism anymore. Go ahead and continue to be the hero of the recruiting forum. I have made my case a dozen times. Dooley is the man in 2012. Hope he gets it done.

Committ to us this whole time and Texas just needs someone to fill their board and they steal him away lol. Whatever. Good luck playing in a weak conference and not starting till ur JR/SR year.. lol

I am not sour grapes. I do not resent Santos going to Texas. It is a huge deal for kids in Texas and especially those who grew up Horn fans.

That said... and as I posted a long time ago... Rivals looked at this kid alot. Maybe they'll show bias now and bump him just because Texas wanted him. But they resisted when everyone else was heaping praises on him. They resisted when he was chosen and performed reasonably well in the Army AA game. It seems they were never convinced that he had the speed to play LB or the size to play DE at a high level.

Like many of you, I think his chances of success would have been much better with the Vols. However, unlike many of you... I think he would have been recruited over at UT also.

This is one of the reasons why you don't make 17-18 year old kids your avatar picture. The main reason is that it's creepy. No offense to many people on here, because I know it's a popular thing to do.

It is so funny to see people's reactions after the one they love gets away.

I know it's ridiculous how people get pissy and turn on a recruit when they bounce for another school. Hey I happy that he let the staff know so other plans could be made. I see nothing wrong with what Santos did. Best of luck to him. Some people just need to grow the hell up.

Hey mo. It isn't homerism to say "I don't know if he can coach". It is STUPID to try to evaluate someone without giving them the tools to work with first.

You have no case. There is no case to be made. Because there is no valid proof to show he cannot win with a reasonably SEC worthy roster. NOR is there any proof whatsoever ever that he CAN. It is not "homerism" to say that... it is simply rational and objectively TRUE.

If Lord Saban himself had been on UT's sidelines last fall it would not have changed the outcome of more than a game or two at the most. He inherited a team made up of the remnants of three consecutive busted recruiting classes. Some article posted here earlier said that it was a very difficult task to overcome even ONE busted recruiting class in the SEC. He started just one notch above where it would have been if UT had been coming out of an NCAA imposed death penalty.

Not suprising. Texas is hard to overcome for instate recruits, unless they hate em for some odd reason. Hope him well.

This is that point where I wish Khalid Henderson was still a commit. I know they most likely would have played different positions (ILB/OLB). But from what I read about him, Henderson was coachable and intelligent. Just liked his upside I guess...

In summary: It sucks. It is what it is. We're still very much okay at LB.

Dalton is going to be #2 on the depth chart for MLB THIS year.

It's funny now that Dalton is committed to Texas I have read 2 articles stating he is a 4 star

He was already a 4* on Scout and ESPN. Rivals has him as a 3* and they already put out their final rankings.

I agree. I can't blame him at all for what he did. Many of us would have done the same. It's sad when grown men are acting like teenage girls.

I am one of the fans here who has no problem with DS's decision.

That said, I doubt he plays significant minutes for you unless your situation is very desperate. All Fr LB's struggle with pass defense. UT had two of the more SEC ready Fr I have ever seen at LB this year and they struggled alot.

Santos doesn't have that level of athleticism. He will hurt you in the often pass happy Big 12 unless he somehow gets alot faster.

Not sure what "mo" means. Way of namecalling with out breaking the rules?

At the risk of a dozen VN posters asking for me to be banned:

The team was poorly coached. They couldn't tackle. They couldn't block. They only played hard for a half. They looked ill-prepared for high level competition. They looked worse than 2010 in almost every aspect of the game. They got worse as the season went on.

Record is one thing. Not sure how much that could have been helped. The inability to compete is another. No way Saban's teams LOOK like that. You have to believe your eyes at some point. It's not an exercise in freakin data analysis.

We should have a contingency in place for Santos being a Horn. If they only lose him they will have done a great job with all of the coaching turnover.

Nobody would have cared if they had not heard about how he likes to hit people hard. He became a cult hero on here. He is a good player, would like to have got him, but there are quite a few good players out there. There was one redshirting and getting stronger on the roster already in Harris. They will be fine.

Yep, that's it!

If I were in his shoes and UT (the real UT) came calling I would probably do the same thing. Life will go on. This stuff happens every year. It's not like he pulled some crap like Write or others did this year. He did it the right way and I can respect that.

Big loss. This one is on Dooley. Dead man walking imo.

Santos went from one sinking ship to another. Sucks for him. Wish nothing but the best for him and his family tho. Hopefully Peters stays on board. The next staff will have a loaded LB core!

Go Vols!

Never understood what gets posters off on spending an insane amount a time on a rival teams message board just to agitate people. Sad existence.
