Whatever Sirmon said to he and his family that sold them on UT still stands true. If either of the dc candidates in discussion are in fact hired Santos will be in a better defensive scheme.

Apparently, Urban Meyer has talked to Santos and he's agreed to take a visit up there right before signing day. Not good...

So it's either a troll making things up who doesn't know what he's talking about or Urban actually did violate the rules. Both bode well for UT in this instance imo.

Santos is allowed to call Meyer or any coach he wants. All someone had to do was give him Meyers number.

I'm not worried, he's going to be a Vol. Steele will likely be hired tomorrow and he'll be talking/meeting with all the recruits right away. I'm sure once that happens all will be fine.

Yes, he can call who he wants...and no I'm far from a troll. Lastly, Steele isn't getting hired. I'd put my money on Shannon...

I would haaaaaate to lose Santos more than any other recruit. This guy is an absolute beast. I just don't see him going to Oh. State. I watched the video highlighting his life at home and he is a southern hick that loves momma, loves to hunt, and loves football. Arkansas maybe, Texas A & M maybe, Tn yes, Ohio---don't think so.

Do you think Steele would have been in negotiations with UT while prepping for a bowl game?

I was thinking if it was Steele it would probaly be the weekend before the deal could go down.

It is just so frustrating that we are having to re-recruit guys like Santos, Peters, McNeil (our best defensive recruits!) Curse you Wilcox and Sirmon! and curse you sky is falling fan that makes our program look bad. Not really, but it does suck.

Steele and Dooley are friends...Dooley knew Saturday night Wilcox was gone. I'm sure he called Steele right away to gauge his interest and he either said, "No, i'm good at Clemson... or Yes, but let's wait until after the Orange Bowl". Dooley knows how important it is to get a DC hired quickly for recruiting purposes right now. After thinking about it/reading what LWS has had to say....IMO, Steele is likely the next DC and will be announced as early as tomorrow.

But SBV is very credible as well and he thinks it's going to be RS so maybe it's him...but CDD could have already announced RS if he was going to hire him but he can't announce Steele until after the game tonight....just feels like Steele to me. JMO

I have to agree I think Shannon would have already been annouced and I also think he is holding out to see what other head jobs come available before taking a coordinator position.

I think it has to be Steele as well just would be a little surprised if it happens tomorrow.

You can bet the media will be bringing it up early and often with our recruits. There has been a "quiet period" for them while they are at the bowl game, but you can bet they will also be hearing a ton from other schools who will be painting all our problems with the darkest colors possible. That is why a speedy resolution to our DC hunt is almost as important as who we hire. I would really hate for this to drag out until Monday.

When discussing Steele, keep in mind that these negotiations are not done face to face -- especially in this case where both Dooley and Hart both know Steele and have worked with him in the past. The negotiating will be between Tennessee and Steele's agent, not with Steele himself, and if he is our choice there is no reason that the deal could not be announced tomorrow. At that point, Steele could reach out to the assistants he wants to bring with him if that has not already been done, which likely to be the case.

Of course the same scenario is true for Shannon, who is not hindered at all by preparing for a bowl game. The delay in hiring Shannon would be that his situation is more complicated, requiring more negotiations.

Either way, I would be shocked if an announcement is not made by Friday at the latest, and the situation with our recruits pretty much dictates that it needs to be done by then.

Can you imagine how embarrassing it would have been for that little RB if he had lost to a 250lb LB? lol
