Agree JMoore. Partially at least. Santos and Peters are both guys that UT cannot afford to lose. They will be studs. But McNeil would be #1 for me. Ridiculously talented, hard-hitting player at a position of more need IMO.
Randolph will be a great player for UT, but outside of himn I'm not too thrilled with what we have back there at S. McNeil and Randolph would form one hell of a tandem in the defensive backfield for years.
Santos and Peters are #2A and #2B for me though. Both will be studs at LB. I think we have a little more depth and young talent at LB though than we do at DB.
- FortenberryIn talking to Dalton Santos again today it's clear he loves Tennessee. I don't doubt that a bit. He continues to just say good things about Tennessee as a school and community.
But, at the same time losing Sirmon and Wilcox was hard for him. We'll see what happens and Dooley needs to make some hires before Jan. 13, but he seems to be waiting things out right now
If the rumors are true about Steele, and CLT moves back to LBs, do we think he can keep Santos and Peters on board?
Maybe we have caught a break for a change. Tonight's latest unconfirmed rumor is that yesterday's rumors were correct -- Hart has stepped in and overruled Dooley and has opted to sign Shannon as our new DC -- Dooley's preference was apparently Steele. If true, Hart is my new hero -- Shannon is a much better hire than Steele, who in my opinion is on the downside of his career, having lost the "fire in his belly" to be the best. Clemson has had an average at best defense with loads of talent available.
Supposedly the rumors yesterday were correct and Shannon will make a bit over $1 million per year and more importantly to me, he will be allowed to bring in his choice of position coaches. Hopefully, that will include getting rid of Joseph or at least putting him someplace else for which he is more qualified -- like long snappers or something.
In my opinion, this information which came out about a couple of hours ago is the best possible outcome of the Wilcox and Sirmon departure. It should be a definite upgrade overall for our coaching staff and will take some of the sting out of losing Sirmon.
If true, this would solidify our recruiting class and perhaps allow us to add a few more top players on defense. Shannon could also bring Pender (he is friends of the family) with him if he comes, but that would be cutting it close timing-wise. From the account, the negotiations should be wrapped by Friday, or next Monday at the latest.
The main reason I am not 100% skeptical about this is that it makes too much logical sense. Hart had already taken ownership of the search, and who would not prefer Shannon over Steele?? Plus, it explains Palardy's tweets last night -- he got the news from Shannon's side, not out of Knoxville.
