Texas offered and he grew up a texas fan so they are panicking as if Obama just won his 2nd term.

seriously where are you right now?

Not the same at all...Dalton was " all Vol ", so to speak...Davis' recruitment was iffy and there were rumblings that he would de-commit from UF for awhile IIRC.

He also de-committed from UF awhile back, not ten days before NSD.

Nice try though.

Davis was all Gator, there were not rumblings of a decommit, and he decommitted in december after we told several other backs "we have our guy."

Jay's right. I wish we could pull something off here but it's doesn't look like it's going to work out. We have the important chess pieces left on the board.

It sucks doesn't it? I felt confident that we would be able to keep Santos up until last night. The reality of it is that it's just nearly impossible to beat Texas out for a Texas recuit. I hope Coach Sal and Coach Joseph can produce a miracle when they visit Santos one last time, but I wouldn't count on it.

The good news is that we are going to have a great NSD whether Santos is apart of our class or not. :loco:

Again, this is like HS Dating....what more would you expect.....Some has to do with the traditional values that are instilled in kids by parents...

This is such a cat an mouse game...My read on Santos is that he was or is still committed to Tennessee but this is taking the absolute toll on him with the offer to Texas.

I am sure he will sit down with parents and do a logical analysis to determine where he needs to be....When he announced he was coming to Tennessee he stated he struggled at night with the decision....Does this mean he is struggling now....We don't know....

All of us feel like whores in this process, the recruits, the university and the fans....Some have a tendency to rev up the emotional and drama side of it....

It is what it is....The nerve of Texas doing this who do they think they are.....Foul I say Foul.....No It is Texas.....He either stays with the one who brought him to the dance or allows himself to be a tool....

There will be more dances in the future and more recruits to court....If he walks it is for the best and if he stays it will be for the best....It is more fun being chased than being the Chaser...

Bottom line is don't chase....and don't Wh00000re yourself out.....

I agree.

I would love to have this kid play here, but it seems a little suspect. How can we compete with a major in-state school whom his family supports?

I think that if I were Dooley I would just say "Listen Dalton, you've been committed to us for a long time, we have invested a ton of resources into your recruitment and we really want you to come here and play. If you aren't committed to us and aren't a man of your word, you aren't TN material. If you are committed to us there is no need to "date around". But, that is probably why I am not head coach...

I shudder to think that on signing day he might say something like "I choose the REAL UT" and put on a longhorn hat. I will throw up in my mouth and start telling everyone about the Alamo, about the history of TN (if there had been no Volunteers, there would be no uTex) and generally going on a long winded, red faced diatribe about how great UT (V-O-L-S) are...but I digress.

This guy does not make or break our signing class. Honestly, if he wants to play games I say let him go to Texas. I honestly see them as a stagnant program and us on the rise (and in a much better conference) but maybe I am wrong.

Otha has better athleticism and potential

he can stay on the field all 3 downs.

there is no reason to think he wont be better.

Santos is no scrub

I hope people are not implying that Otha will end up the better LB. There is absolutely no way to tell. Neither have played a down in college.

I think OP has that potential. The Rivals guys are going all in with Otha. His jump in the rankings was a shocker to me. He really impressed everyone at the O/D all star game. I'm really optimistic about his game after seeing him play and watching his Senior film. However, it's probably a skewed comparison, b/c I think that Santos and Peters would play different positions.

Well, I just don't how all of you are already defeated. Dude hasn't even seen the Texas staff yet, and he hasn't even visited yet.

I think people got excited about Santos because he's brings a physical presence and attitude that has seemingly lacked as of late.

The quotes on him cracking skulls and living to decleat people got the fanbase excited about Santos. With that said, he is no deal breaker, but he is the most badly wanted 3 star I've ever followed.

Since we recently offered Chase Robison a DE/Inside LB do you think Dooley and Company believe Santos is gone? I just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts

Just for some perspective:

With out current numbers crunch and Santos only being a 3 star, it's possible that losing him to Texas could improve our final class ranking. Obviously, there's a difference between improving the class and improving the ranking but it's worth pointing out that no matter how this goes the sky will be firmly in place for some time.

He is a Texas kid.

Just how bad could his visit go? Barring Brown pulling a Richt ( think Eric Berry situation ), it appears he is going to the other UT.

And you're being an ass. Santos is rated the #1 ILB on ESPN, but go ahead and ignore that and carry on.

Again, It is ESPN....Rivals no. Scout, NO....He is No. 1 on ESPN and is a 3 star...Does not equate....Oh I know he has got something going on in his past.....

The major question is do we really want him or need him and if he walks can we upgrade..... the we would be intended for the coaches and not the fans....

What is his upside potential....Hey he wants to go to Texas and settle for that then fine.....See him in the woodwork for about 2 or 3 years there...

If he is gone we want know about it until Sunday...and there is a dead period in there I think....So best to have a back up plan and we offered today a kid out of Memphis....I guess just in case....

Santos will not give us a heads up until after the Texas visit.....

I know Jay is pretty confident in his departure and unfortunately for good reason. Texans are obsessed with their in state team like no other school that I can think of.

Texas rosters are usually 95%+ Texas kids as well. That hurts us, but more than anything I think his mother and father saying, "Knoxville is great, but you could go to Texas and live close to home and play on your favorite team." That's tough to beat.

Santos is 4* on ESPN.

I wouldn't worry about the heads up from Santos...I think with his wavering, if ready, willing and able kids want to commit, his spot will be taken. Just my take anyway.

Here we go. I don't think anyone should assume anything until after the weekend. Robison has been a DE his entire career. Dude doesn't have a clue how to play a 3-4 LB.
