No profiling intended, but I expected something totally different with his last name being Guillermo. Maybe Spanish decent, not Latino.

Heard a caller on the radio today who said Alabama has spoken to this kid a couple of times. Clemson is another school that apparently has an eye on him.

Report from the National Junior Combine:

Maryville Linemen Excel: Brandon Guy said he didn't like his 40-yard dash time or his vertical leap, but loved the competition of one-on-one drills. Jay Guillermo liked it all, but said his favorite part was all the stuff Guy didn't enjoy.

Both Maryville offensive linemen came away from Friday's camp excited about their respective performances.

"It's the competition and more people getting a look at me," Guillermo said. "That's what it's all about."

Neither player is receiving much attention from UT, but both are being recruited heavily by Clemson. Guy said he also has received some attention from Nebraska and Alabama, while Guillermo has been in touch with Northwestern, Cincinnati and Alabama.

UT recruit Brian Kimbrow 'pretended that no one could stop me' at junior combine GoVolsXtra

Clemson rivals site has a article up on him today. He says he was a life long Clemson fan. Talks about getting offer after attending Junior day there. I think Brooks and Cadwell are recruiting him. It doesn't say he committed but from the sound of it he might as well.

This is him talking about Junior day there....

"We put on a Clemson jersey, touched the rock, and ran down the hill" Guillermo said. "Being a big Clemson fan, after that, I knew I wanted to be there."

we won't recruit a center next year with Crowder onboard, just unlucky timing for
Guillermo

I dont agree. I'm not sure they have any interest in Guillermo, but I think there is a good chance they will take another Center or at least a guard that could project as a center. Crowder is going to be a very long-term project IMO.

This +1. Crowder won't come close to competing with Stone. And just because this guy is a C doesn't mean he couldn't play Gaurd. Or the other way around.

If that quote is legit, then expect violations incoming. That is simulating game day experience..

UT had evaluated him and will continue to do so. Jay did extremely well in San Antonio last month at the combine and is good on the field and in the classroom. However, it should be noted that he's a North Carolina native and grew up a Clemson fan. I believe his father is perhaps director of music for First Baptist Church in Maryville. But Clemson had known of and been recruiting Guillermo since his sophomore season in N.C.

Having said that, Guillermo is considered to be perhaps a top-five center if he focuses on that position; he's versatile enough that he played center and guard last year. Again, he's very smart, athletic and moves well for his size. His technique is good already, and it will get even better working under David Ellis, who's a former high school head coach and could have been a college position coach in the past. Plus, Clemson has had MHS kids before.
