'12 TN OL Andrew Jelks

If it came down to NSD and we had one spot. Both Jelks and Kirven wanted to commit but we had no choice but to only take one or the other (obviously this is theoretical) - we take Kirven every time.

No, we would greyshirt some other guy. With the exception of D.J. Humphries calling us up and saying he all of a sudden wants to jump on board, we will take Jelks if we can get him. The situation you speak of would more be Shanks vs. Kirven or something like that.

Listen i am not saying we don't like Kirven. We like Kirven. But we don't like Kirven nearly enough to pass on Jelks. Not nearly.

NYC, I know you're a good poster and you have inside sources, but how do you feel about us landing Jacobs, Autry, and Sentimore. Because from what ive been told, its looking like all 3 will be Vols. Even Jacobs is recruiting Sentimore to Tennessee. Do you think we'd take Jelks over these 3 knowing how big of a need we have at DL? These 3 is the type of talent we need to contend for championships, they scream SEC ready.

I think we have Autry and Jacobs, but that is pretty common knowledge. I think we are in pretty good with Sentimore, but he is a crazy kid, so you don't want to call it a lock. I don't think there is any situation in which we would have to pick between any of those three and Jelks, so the answer is we would take all 4 if we can get all 4.

NYC>OCI all day long. Jmo, imho.

I feel like not making line recruiting a priority in previous years is why were starting a frosh and three sophomores. No?

Jelks over Patterson?

No. What is the point in comparing a WR to an OT? We want to take an OT in this class. Jelks is that guy. Period. What happens to us with a Juco WR makes 0 difference. If all of a sudden you see 2 more great DT's wanting to jump on board, then maybe we greyshirt, or even bump a guy. But it won't make any difference as far as Jelks is concerned. Very few teams EVER go a class without taking a single O-Lineman. Add in the fact that there is one we like from out back yard, and we will not bump him.

I figured that is the case. I have no problem taking Jelks, but our numbers are getting so tight that I dont see a way to fit him in considering how much elite talent we're currently in on. Howard, Patterson, and Meredith are a few that come to mind that I think will end up as Vols when its all said and done. Diggs and Elston are both possibilities too.

Honestly I rarely ever post here, so its not very important. I just feel like there has been so much misinformation about this kid, its crazy.

It really is puzzling to me that we wouldnt take an O-lineman in this class. Its a usual thing for a recruiting class. I know we have a young, but stacked OL in terms of talent and we have more needs in other areas, but you usually take an O-lineman in each class. Jelks is that guy for this class. How the numbers work out if we were to take him, I dont know, but im sure Dooley has a plan ready to go.

Its funny because if Jelks were a top 100 player on Rivals, everybody would think differently about him. Nobody would be saying any of this about him not being a take. In reality, our staff thinks of him as that type of player. I mean, Alabama has 1 O-Lineman in their entire class, and they are going to Paris, TN to watch this kid.

Do you know the concerns Jelks has about Tennessee, and why he may not return for a visit?

The plan is Jelks. I mean, you got Ja'wuan James as a Junior next year, and a small chance he could come out early. Again, the idea is NOT to have to start true freshman. That, and I really doubt we are going to just hand the RT job to Alan Posey with not competition. So it is a need. It is a much bigger need than a 4th LB or a 4th DT.

Who is NYCVOL? I've never seen him post and ya'll seem to worship him. What am I missing?

One more thing NYC, where do you think we stand with Beniquez Brown. Kid's an explosive athlete and was considered a take for Bama until their numbers started getting tight. Now we're in good position to land him, and im hearing its a UT-Miss St. battle. One thing in our favor is we're giving him a shot at RB and we offer early PT which are both things that he wants. Think he will be a Vol?

Really don't know. The obvious is Howard, Autry, Patterson, Meredith. After that, recruiting is recruiting. It feels a lot closer to Feb than it actually is.

Meredith is obvious? I got a Trent Taylor vibe when reading his article and it seems like his dad wants him to come here, but I didn't know it was that obvious. Thats great news.

Any chance we pull away quinteze from florida? I read we are still recruiting him pretty hard.
