I don't think Kimbrow will stick with Vandy like others have noticed as well. I still think UT would benefit from getting Kimbrow, but there is something happening that neither you nor I know about in his recruitment. We won't know for a while.

I see you continue to talk out of your ass. You didn't provide any qualified information, just your opinions. Your opinions and idiotic sarcasm are getting old, fast. There's always going to be UT homers here. It's kind of funny, though, you seem to fit into the "we didn't want him anyway" group if uninformed posters.

Maybe you do not know what the phrase "passing on" means. If the staff does not offer or accept a commitment from a local kid....YES...they PASSED on him. What has Kimbrow done to make you think he won't stick with Vandy except set a day to commit to them?

I have said from day 1 I would much prefer a bigger back who will actually get carries in the SEC. 200 and 4.4 trumps 165 and 4.3 any day. I may be uninformed..but we have offered alot of bigger backs of late and passed on your East Mississippi water bug.

You absolutely have to make recruiting in-state a priority. And this staff has done that with the players that have the talent they're looking for and fit the needs of the class. But they're not going to offer or accept a commitment from someone just because they're from TN if they feel like they have a shot at a better prospect from out of state. This staff has offered and is recruiting the players in TN that they feel will help them upgrade the talent level of the roster. Just because Scout says some kid is a 4* doesn't mean he fits what the staff is looking for and should be offered. I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand for some people.

The way you say "pass on him" makes it seem as if you're inferring that our staff just doesn't know about the player or doesn't know of their ability. I can tell you that's not the case. This staff is definitely making in-state recruiting a priority. Again, we are actually passing on players in-state b/c we have someone better in line, or they are just not good enough.

The back you're describing, we already have. We're going to get even more this class. It doesn't hurt to add speed and diversity to your backfield. Forcing defenses to account for a player like that adds a lot to an offensive. I can bet we'll meet a team in the SEC that can stop the run with a guy that runs a 4.4 and is 200lbs who consistently tries to just move the chains won't always work in our league So, agree to disagree. And this isn't a Memphis homer deal. I just know how good Kimbrow is. Whoever gets him is getting a ball player.

You are correct. However, I fear that you may have opened a can of worms with the stargazers we have on this board. They will hammer you with the tired, old "4 stars and 5 stars equals talent and 3 stars equals no talent" argument.

At the risk if opening another can of worms, I will say that I feel that Philip Fulmer did that a lot in his time as coach.

GEEZ man! You keep missing the point here. In state recruting IS important. As I showed in my previous post, look how much harder it would be if we took the TN players out of the last two classes. That does not mean that we should or want DD to take a 2 star TN player over a 5 star just because they are from TN. Thats not happening. They DO want to build relationships in TN to keep the talent we have here because most want to be Vols and we need those 5 to 10 players to be locks every year to make out of state recruiting easier. If we had to get everyone from out of state it would be that much harder. By far most people want as many TN players on the roster as possible but that does not mean they want inferior players. The staff will take the best players and want in-state guy too, they are going through this process of evaluation now. Its not over so quit jumping to conclusions.

I could see a flip from Vandy to Cinci as a possibility. I could also see the kid sticking with Vandy as he has said he is getting tired of the recruiting process. I would bet after a while, its no longer fun for these guys.

Has anyone heard about this young man from Memphis, Brian Kimbrow? I ran accross an article about him and from what I read, this kid has some real jets. The article said that he ran a crazy 4.28 sec 40 yds and consistanly runs around 4.31, that is blistering speed for a young man still in highschool. Not sure if his size is a concern, only 5'8" 160 lbs.

Would be nice to have someone to help bolster our punt/kick return game. Remember the days of Willie Gault.

It’s countdown time in the state of Tennessee.

The state’s top high school prospect, Brian Kimbrow of Memphis East High School is now officially on the clock, as the four star prospect will make his official announcement his upcoming Friday July 1 2:00 p.m., at the D1 Training Facility in Franklin, Tennessee.

Now the million dollar question is which school will he choose?

InsideTennessee.com caught up with the speedy athlete Sunday morning to get his take on the six schools in the running for his services.

“It’s down to six schools,” Kimbrow said. “Tennessee, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame and Auburn.”

Kimbrow wouldn’t tip his hand on which school he was going to pick, but laughed when asked if his decision on making the announcement in Franklin, Tennessee was a positive omen for Vanderbilt’s new head coach James Franklin.

“I don’t know if it is or not,” Kimbrow laughed. “I will just be glad to get this recruiting process behind me. It’s really been overwhelming at times.”

Kimbrow has kept up with school message boards and can’t believe some of the things some fans have to say about him.

“It’s crazy,” Kimbrow said. “People assume to know what I’m going to do, but they really don’t know. I was never disrespectful to Tennessee while I was down there on a visit, that’s not the kind of person I am.” I

n fact when Kimbrow as asked about what stood out about his six finalists, this is what he had to say about Tennessee.

“I had a great time while I was there,” Kimbrow said. “I love their coaching staff and I love their facilities, they have some of the best in the country. They have always treated me great while I have been there.”

Kimbrow on Cincinnati: I have a great relationship with their coaches, I haven’t been there for a visit, but I think I would fit in well there.

Kimbrow on Mississippi State: I grew up around Starkville. I have a lot of family still there and I have a great relationship with Coach Dan Mullins.

Kimbrow on Notre Dame: That’s another school I haven’t got the chance to see. I really like Coach Kelly a lot. They have a great reputation academically and it would be a great school to go to.

Kimbrow on Auburn: Coach Trooper Taylor and I are great friends. He is a great coach and a proven winner. They showed me a great time while I was there for their camp.

Whatever school that gets Kimbrow’s commitment will definitely upgrade their speed. Kimbrow has been clocked on several occasions in the 4.28 range.

Being in the Army and always deployed, I only know what I read about the young man. I am not sure about his youtube video, but if he is a legit 4.28 - 4.30 in the 40 yds, I can promise you that he is not slow.
