Who will Kimbrow choose?

Kimbrow currently holds over 2 dozen offers. Has accepted an invitation to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. So far he has visited Memphis, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss. He plans on visiting many more in the summer.

"I think I'll be going to Auburn or Vanderbilt like Monday or Tuesday," Kimbrow said. "I also plan on going to Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama, Cincinnati, LSU and USC -- basically everybody [that has offered]. I'm doing some in the summer and some this spring."
"It's going to be hard, but I'm going to choose whoever I feel like is the best for me," Kimbrow said. "I'm looking for good leadership, a winning tradition and good coaches."

I feel like with Kimbrow it will come down to Identity. The kid is proud to be from Memphis, he's proud to be at East. If we can convince him that part of his identity is with Tennessee, with his home state, then we have him imo.

Don't forget when asked if TN interested him he said
"Course it intrests me, its home state!"

Thats the kinda response we need to get out of our Tennessee kids if we are going to be successful at home. Its hard to recruit out of someone else's backyard when you can't even protect your own. Your always going to lose some. I think Cole, as Washington last year, will just be set on going elsewhere. Its the people who identifiy themself as a Tennessean, as several of our instate kids have done who will make us strong again

post like this make me happy to see JMoore back!

It is his opinion based on an interview and article written by someone else for Christ's sake. He doesn't have a damn clue where the kid will sign. Anyone could tell you we have the upper hand on an in-state kid.

Washington, Tate, Oher, Turner, and Hightowner say hi

who've signed for tennessee who we legitimately wanted and beaten off competition from others? My argument is stupid? I think not. Lets count em. Here are the prospects we've signed that we had competition for

2011
Richardson
Clear
Kerbyson

2010
Smith
Stone

2009
Teague
Gordon
King

2008
Douglas (ditched us later)

2007
Donald
Walker
Coleman
Sykes

Notable Defections:
Oher- Ole Miss
Turner- USC
Washington- Alabama
Tate- Notre Dame
Hightower- Alabama
Brown- Georgia
Long- Georgia
Maclin- LSU
Bullard- Notre Dame (But saw the light!)
Hardin-Miami
Mason- North Carolina

As you can see we sign an average of 3 top in-state players per year. If my math is correct it would take 16 years to get your 50 kids. I think the ratio is about 30:70 as for Tennessee signing the top TN kids it wants.
Yes there are some TN kids who sign im not mentioning, but they wernt highly recruited. Players such as Hughes, Revis, Rogan, Young, Crowder and Downs.

Signing 3/10 on instate kids that you want isnt exactly an upper hand IMO

HOWEVER

We are seing better trends locally. Under dooley, we have signed the top player in Tennessee(Smith and Richardson) twice in a row, and added lesser ranked but equally important players like James Stone, Clear, and Kerbyson. I think in state recruiting is looking better, but to say we have an inherent advantage with all instate kids is not supported by the numbers

Dooley is working hard to improve this. You can see that by these numbers
In 2008, Alabama took 3 of our top 6 recruits
in 2009 Georgia took our top 2-
In 2011-Dooley- 5 of the top 6 are vols

We need to study LSU because they are textbook in the SEC when it comes to keeping in-state talent
Out of the top 6 LS players
2011-5/6
2010-5/6
2009-5/6 *Janzen was the one deserter
2008-4/6
2007-5/6

You get my point....

To make this all relevant I think Dooley protects the streak. Kimbrow is top player in state and ends up a Vol. He and Bowles will be vital. I think we'll get Bowles as well. Cole goes to Bama

We've already offered him.... along with half the nation.

It probably wouldn't be a good idea to hold off on the RB/Athlete that everyone wants while waiting to see if the one that nobody wanted works out

Kimbrow is well worth a scholarship. He has earned his offer.
