'12 NC OT D.J. Humphries

One question though, is this Collins guy openly recruiting Humphries to UF? I mean its one thing to give advise, or subtle influence, but its a whole different thing to be "working Humphries and his family" as some have reported. If he is not a gator staff member, his influence as a trainer/mentor has some boundaries. And since Humphries himself isnt talking to anyone, but gator mods feel confident based on info from Collins, it sounds like Collins has free reign to recruit without the restrictions placed on our staff. Am I missing something?

I've thought about this too. Mo Collins is essentially in the same position as Berry was with Holsey - but he wasn't pushing Holsey to us. I guess Mo can do it with no consequences and not have a guilty conscience about pushing a kid to a school that may not be the best fit for him. Whatever helps the man sleep at night.

Yes, but more than that, isn't that an NCAA violation? I mean if this guy is calling and going by to recruit his parents, that's crossing the line IINM.

He had a prior relationship with DJ and the family before Florida started recruiting him. He's free to talk to them as much as he likes about whatever he likes.

Thanks. Thought there must be one of those loopholes for them to be so open about it. Prior relationship.... those sneaky gators. :hi:

Mo Collins lives and coaches in North Carolina. He has been sending North Carolina's top offensive linemen south to Gainesville for a few years. I think he is likely getting compensated somewhere along the line. He also has something called the "ultimate college recruiting guide" that he claims has led to almost 3 million dollars in scholarships since 2009. Not sure what that is exactly but he has a facebook page for it. Needless to say he is well versed in the recruiting game.

So maybe CDD should have a past Vol from each of the 50 states to be on call and BEFORE Tennessee contacts a kid in his Soph, or Jr year in HS....have the "middle man" strike up a relationship with the family and then we have a "friend of the family" to keep us at or near the top. He could offer the kid rides to camps, maybe a lil cash when needed.....we would be set.

I still feel pretty good about our chances based on what I know. There has been some more smoke on the Gator boards............but we'll see.

Message boards are all over the place 10 fold before someone is expected to announce. It would be wise to put very little credibility on rumors being spread around these next few days

Agree completely.............but that's what we all get on message boards for bro.

obviously landing dj would be a HUGE get for us and a steal from the gators/...but if we happen to not land dj would it be as bad as it sounds? our line is pretty stacked for the next few years and we pulled in some good lineman in last yrs class. obviousy it would suck for him to go to a rival...anyway what do you think?

thanks
Perhaps not, IF he were not signing with a rival like UF.

Kid is a rare talent. Even though we are stocked at OLine, he would be a huge loss.

I don't think this will be over for either team even if he commits to the Vols or the Gators. In other words, don't be a freaking idiot on twitter if things don't go our way. The coaches have a good relationship with the kid don't eff it up.

"And even at tackle you can get by at a decent weight. it's about quickness and arm length there too."

Agree to an extent. But if UF is switching to a more pro-style offense like is being said he'll definitely need more bulk and to be able to knock people off the ball. Which leads to him needing to gain weight, and he only weighs 260-265, not the 280 someone on here posted, pretty quickly if he wants to play early at UF or UT. DJ would have been a perfect fit as a tackle in Meyer's offense, imo, where it wouldn't have been as much power blocking and more of a finese type style.

By the way a lot of people over in Charlotte think Collins is very overated as a coach and that it's wrong the way he's pushing kids to UF. I know some close to him that want him at UT but they are not pushing. They want the kid to make the best decision for him regardless of what they thing. That's why the Collins mess is BS.

I assume Collins coaches at Mallard Creek?

So it's been confirmed Collins is pushing him to UF, and the only reason UF has led this whole time is because of Collins forcing UF on DJ?

Interesting...........had not heard much about Collins forcing DJ to Gainesville.

I live in Charlotte and never have never really heard Collins name come up in the high school football scene. Is he one of thoses mentors?
