'12 NC OT D.J. Humphries

This is going to sound like sour grapes but I promise it's not...I hope we land DJ...it will be huge in many ways if we do and bad in many ways if we don't...

That being said...I think the recent news about Autry is much bigger than the news about DJ possibly leaning to and picking us on Friday

JuCo? Check. Position of need? Check. Five star? Likely check.

DJ would be a huge get. Building quality depth on the Oline is never a bad thing. I do think if we miss...it's not that big of a deal as the staff has shown the ability to target and get big time Oline guys if we really need them. We are not pushing that hard for Oline guys this year. Yes, a couple will be part of the class....but I think anytime the staff and CHH need Oline guys..they will get them. Our Oline play this year will just support that even more for next years class.

Humphries committing would be bigger than Autry. Not by a large margin, but it would be bigger.

Humphries, Autry, Santos and Patterson are all big time possibilities.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

Autry would be in the rotation from day 1. I don't think Humphries would.

Wow, people arguing over the importance of landing the #3 recruit in the country vs. getting one of the top juco de's in the country. What a good problem to have.

It's a need thing...

I want Humphries here...he would be a great addition...but with James, Thomas, Richardson, Pair and Posey we've got 2 studs, a proven commodity as a backup (Thomas) and two high 3 star backups...and that's just at tackle...the OL is pretty set for a few years

At DE we've got Smith and then nobody that has proven they are legit talents...Walls and Williams can be but we haven't see either at DE in an SEC game yet...even if they are we still need someone like Autry badly

Yeah, and I think landing Autry is huge, because you are adding a player that can step in and play right away. This bodes well for the part of the team that needs the most boosting for a 2012 SEC East title run, the defense.

We know the offense is going to be solid in 2012, but the question will once again be how is our depth and quality of play on defense going to be? Adding top quality JUCO players to what we will have coming back next year will give next years team a chance to get back to competing in the East.

Anyone know what Humphries will be majoring in? Just wondering which school fits his academic goals best?

trying to pick apart what skeeter posted. 1. he hasnt heard anything in 2 weeks. 2. M Collins is on D.J. and his family hard core. 3. D.J. is staying in contact with U.T. coaches. what can we ascertain from these points? seems like the Gator mods have been "hearing" a lot, probably from Collins. we havent been hearing any thing but skeeter got pushed out of the loop. D.J. staying in touch with the U.T. coaches at least, suggests that he hasnt made a decision. still feel that he will be a gator, but maybe there is a little hope. yet.

Anyone that say's we don't really need DJ is just not thinking clearly. Our OL is talented and seemingly deep but only if everyone of the young players pans out and we have no serious injuries. Since we were not able to redshirt guys last year that means when DJ is a true freshman Bullard, Stone, Schofield, Ja'wuan and Fulton will all be juniors. Dallas will already be gone. At least two or three of those guys could possibly turn pro after next season. I know we have good looking O linemen in last years class but you just never have so many linemen that a guy with this much potential isn't a need. The other obvious reason is it will give this staff instant credibility and hopefully the undecided kids that we are recruiting will take notice. We need to land DJ to show we can go toe to toe with UF or anyone else and close the deal.

May not make a difference to you, but some of these kids do care about the education and a degree.

It was a joke man. IMO wherever he goes, he will leave as a junior to the NFL. Barring injury of course. That doesn't mean he doesn't care about an education, but he definitely has the talent and size to play in the NFL.

I think Humphries would need 30+ pounds just to compete for a starting spot at Tennessee. NFL potential yes...but a redshirt year would not shock me either. JMO

He wouldn't redshirt at Bama. He will probably be 290 by the end of his senior year.

How exactly does a kid put on 30 pounds during the season? Maybe things are different now a days...but if your playing every week, practicing everyday...your not packing on weight.

I thought I read where he may graduate early.

He is going to be an ee so it would be easy for him to. Not sure why I said senior year either.

obviously landing dj would be a HUGE get for us and a steal from the gators/...but if we happen to not land dj would it be as bad as it sounds? our line is pretty stacked for the next few years and we pulled in some good lineman in last yrs class. obviousy i would suck for him to go to a rival...anyway what do you think?

thanks

Now that's a buddy... turning those frowns upside down.

August 5th is my birthday....hopefully its an EXTRA special day for me when this guy commits to play for us!

Maybe it will better for u than it was for me.. my birthday was a couple of days from scroggins anouncement.. we all know how that went..
