'12 MS LB Richie Brown

I hope UT gets this guy, especially if they go to a 3-4

would be huge!! can you imagine the linebackers we would have in 2014? johnson, maggit, harris, peters, santos and brown as seniors and juniors? holy crap that would be deadly.

most of us try to. what is richie's biggest factor as far as just football is concerned? scheme? potential playing time? potential to play for chamionships? (conference at least) what would you say he looks for in a school? thanks again for getting on here and easing our minds. Just for the record, try to stay in the recruiting forums and your opinion of our site will still stay positive. this is where most of our best posters hang around lol more sanity in here.

Richie doesnt have just one thing that is important to him. He wants the total package (including playing time)as far as programs go. Thats why they are taking all the visits and sticking it out until the end.
I spoke to my mom and she says they met the new DC Sal Sunseri. She say he is from Alabama or something. They met the head coach and his wife. They had a big dinner party. Tomorrow will be a bigger day though.

Arik, two things...
First thanks for your service in the army. My little bro is in the navy (currently deployed until 2013!!! It's going to be a rough year of worrying in the bluegrasser household).
Second, thanks for taking such an interest in your brother's recruitment. I have two brothers and I know I'd be doing the same.
Third ...
Oops I said two at first. Tennessee is all about family. Check out 'vollygirl's post in the main forum about her relationship with her dad. For many of us, the big Orange means a lot more than just x's and o's and wins and losses. For a lot of us, it goes much deeper - a way to stay connected to kin about something you love, whether your in another state or another hemisphere.

You will hear people say, "my blood runs Orange," and It's not just a catchphrase... It's a fact.

I hope your brother discovers this on his visit.

Yep, sunseri just won the title with Bama and was an all American linebacker at Pittsburg. I think he will do great things at TN. I hope your brother has a blast this weekend.

i hope your parents liked dooley. he seems like a really honest guy who really is concerned with alot more than football in these young mens lives. i keep hearing how great he is with momma's so i hope yours took a liking as well. hopefully they see that at Tennessee our coaches arent just interested in making superstar athletes out of these boys ( though it doesnt hurt) they want to make quality men out of them. they care as much about thier futures as they do the wins and loses. thats why theyve established awesome programs like VFL.

richies future seems very bright i just hope the next four years of it are spent wearing that beautiful orange T. GO VOLS!!

I joined the Army right out of high school. I am 27 now and finishing my degree at USM (nursing) I have been through knoxville. I know its beautiful.

I actually dont get on the other boards. I read this and liked how much interest was shown here. I saw some people saying UT didnt have much of a chance. I wanted to let them know that UT has the same chance as the others. It will come down to a decision after much thought and prayer by my dad and brother.

I have never joined or communicated on other boards. I have read some. Some people doubt my brother. They dont think he is as fast as his times say. They are probably just some other athletes cousin trying to knock down my brother. I havent read any of that on this board. Ya'll keep it classy.

Thank you for your service. Hope Richie enjoys the visit. Thanks for posting, too.

I'm wondering how much does your brother weigh right now?

He is at around 225. He has very powerful legs. His upper body will probably fill out a lot more in a college football workout program. He has a nice solid frame with room to grow. The best part about him is his speed and agility though. He has been the fastest kid on his team since he was a sophomore. I believe his speed wont be affected by weight gain because of this. When he was a freshman he was around 195. As a sophomore he was 205. He has continually put on weight and speed and got more agile as he has gained.
And on a side note. He is a good leader but is willing to learn.
and my favorite part about him is that he is an awesome uncle to my son, Aidyn.

Also, I want to be the first to congratulate my brother on being picked as a Parade All American. just read this news article about it:Long Beach's Richie Brown named Parade All-American | gulflive.com

On a non football related note has anyone ever told him he's the spitting image of a beefier Jake gylanhall or however u spell that? The resemblance is scary lol.

Howdy Arik...thanks for the updates! U think there will be any concern with UTs distance compared to the in-state schools he has on his list? Will it be a big factor? I know my parents kind of encouraged it so that I experienced something new. Sowing my royal oats per se :)

Thanks for ur service and good luck with ur studies. And I second the poster that mentioned it best u stay on this side of the forum. It can get pretty stupid over there.

Steven,

Sounds like Richie has had you, amongst others, as a positive influence in life. I've got two older brothers myself, and I can tell by your couple posts here that Richie is probably grateful to have a bro like you. Tell him VN sends best wishes on his decision.

How are they different? Brown is 230 right now. He could be 245 by the start of the season. They are both big and fast

If Brown is as fast as they say he would make Santos look slow... Not a knock on Santos but some of the numbers on Brown indicate, IMO, he has elite speed for that size.. WE NEED BOTH....

Edit: If he were to stay at 225lbs, would they consider playing him at safety? Good Gawd he could be a MONSTER with that size and his speed at that position... Just a thought..

While I understand it is very intriguing to imagine someone of that size and speed (225 lbs and 4.4 speed) to play safety, it is very unlikely and unnecessary.

Richie Brown is a LB. He might need to gain a few pounds to be ready for SEC football, but he no doubt has the skill and instict to play LB in the SEC. He already can play LB and is successful at it so I see no reason in trying him at another position. IMO.

Nah he's not a safety dude. Brown is a LB that would be fun to watch off the edge.

i know he really would want to stay at lb. the other position he likes is fullback/running back hybrid. he could realistically be the next mike allstot.

That would be sweet.. So he likes to blow people up?

He's an OLB for us all the way. He's a terror covering the field. His stock has been soaring since he killed everyone in the AL/MS all star game.

That's just fine with me.. I would think it would be tough to stay at 225lbs once he gets into a college S&C program.. I was just wondering basically and personally I would rather see him at LB.. Santos and AJ in the middle and Richie and Maggitt (sp) on the outside... I know IF we go to a 34..

That's actually kind of scary when you think about it...
