I feel that since I called the McNeil pick that I am now qualified as an insider. So now that I am an expert insider I say that UM ends up not having room and he becomes a VOL. No doubt he wants to be a UM but I think he ends up here. Now you can sleep at night because the Orange Studs guru has spoken. :loco:

An insider has spoken! We are getting O'Brien!

Ericvol has given his approval. By talent as a insider is limitless. Pace says close thread its done. Sab says Orange Studs guru is NM (now that I'm an insider can you tell me what that means). Yes folks there's a new GURU in town. :matrix:

My understanding is that your now allowed to carry a tape recorder, develop twitter/facebook relationships with recruits, wear a hat that says "media" on the front. Your also allowed to make random comments about kids being a VOL lock and if they happen to choose another school you can tell us how they lied to our staff. You are in very elite company now. Congratulations.

Thanks you Pace. I'm kind getting all emotional now. :cray:

PS. I'll use the bold part of your post if O'Brien chooses UM.

Naw, you have a fail safe with the O'Brien situation. If UM makes room for him...as an insider...you could have not known that. If they happen to lose a commitment, I would expect you to be on it though as an insider Guru and quickly tell us that UM now has a spot for him.

Wait! Wait a minute! I've got to work at this guru thing? I was going to wait until someone else posted info and then make comments like I knew that already. You see, I have the best of both worlds. The respect of a guru and without any effort. Yea baby I got this thing under control. :good!:

Pace, I think you'll agree with me here even though most on here probably won't, but I say cut him loose and look at other prospects. If UT isn't where he really wants to be, I don't want him either. CDD is always talking about recruits making absolutely sure this is where they want to be. Well it's pretty apparent that we are NOT O'Brien's first choice and I don't want someone in our program who may half-ass because his heart is somewhere else.

pretty ridiculous. You don't think there are players all around the country that didn't get their first choice in schools? How many wanted to come to UT but end up being great elsewhere? Schools can only admit 25 so I doubt everyone gets their #1. Pretending to know how a kid will play before even signing his LOI isn't the best idea

all that is also based on the idea that UT isn't his first choice but you actually don't even know that either

I doubt the staff would cut ties or stop recruiting the kid. I do hope they are recruiting other DTs guessing that he is not going to be a VOL. Last thing we need is to come up short on the DL again this year as I hope they learned their lesson last year.

My concern with taking kids who clearly want to be elsewhere is I think they become instant prime candidates to transfer if and when their 1st choice may have a spot. Someone mentioned Peters and the fact that he wanted to be at LSU. I agree...and if by some chance they lose a LB commit or a spot opens up..it would not shock me a bit if he jumped ship.

Point taken. I just don't like this whole situation with O'Brien. I feel like he is stringing us along because he thinks he CAN. As a program, we don't need that crap! At least Peters went ahead and pulled the trigger quickly with us once he knew there wasn't an available spot at LSU. O'Brien just seems to be drawing this out and wasting our staff's time when they could be focusing on other DT prospects that might actually WANT to be here!

Most players transfer because they realize that they aren't the best at their position and won't see as much playing time. I highly doubt if we sign Peters or O'Brien that either would leave after they have been here because LSU or UM has a spot come open. Players usually transfer from a school like UT, UM, and LSU for places that are lower caliber schools. Very rarely does a player transfer to a top tier school, much less make an impact there (Malik Jackson). And that was because USC got placed on probation. Those are completely different circumstances...

Guys who in the HECK are we to be picky with our DT's? Just about every school in the nation would love to have this guy.

Coaches also put stipulations on their release of schools that they can't play for. For example, if a SEC top player leaves the coach will say I will release you if you agree that you can't play for another SEC school and they can even say nor UM for example.

Of course we are not picky(unless your Borne)..our problem is we just can't get any big time DTs to commit. Yes, I know we have Jacobs...but with him commiting and then the next day talking about he wants to go visit A&M, we'll see if he sticks.

While your right, IF O'Brien commited to us and for whatever reason decided to transfer. I doubt telling a Michigan kid that we would stop him from going to a big 10 school would not go over well. I do see where LSU and Peters...the SEC thing would come into play.

People are going to laugh when the O'Brien write up after he committs to UT qoutes him as saying UT has led the whole time and that Michigan was just very appealing.

I understand that but my point was that once a recruit signs a LOI then the coach holds the cards of where the recruit can and can not go. Most likely they wouldn't go that far but again just making the point that the coach holds the cards once the kid signs thats all.

I would fully expect a recruit to tell the media that. Not many will talk of how the state school passed on them and they had to take their 2nd option. Ya think if the story that the staff cooled on Kimbrow is true...he would ever talk of how he wanted to be a VOL? Of course not.

Seems to be a lot of worry over nothing in this thread...

Hummmm...interesting statement. Could mean several things. But which one???? My guess is Danny has been a silent to UT for a long time now. I know other info on this board seems to point the other way, but doesn't it always????

Has anyone stopped to ask themselves "what if Tennessee only had 4 spots left, and had what they wanted at dtackle, would obrien call dooley?". Definitely would be a yes. Does that mean Tennessee leads now?

Just a little more follow-up:

1) Don't misinterpret that O'Brien doesn't like UT. He clearly does. It's kinda like having a omm and a dad - where you like different things about each one. UT is clearly at the top of O'Brien's list and he talks VERY favorably about UT. If/When O'Brien commits to UT, he's gonna give 110% every snap...just as he would if he were at Michigan.

Don't even think for a split second that UT is not O'Brien's top pick. Every interview indicates that O'Brien is genuinely high on UT. Selecting UT is NOT!!!! settling. This is the SEC, this is Tennessee!! Every indication from around the UM part of the infoweb is that this young man would be a very proud Volunteer.

2) O'Brien can not and will not go to UT as some sort of transfer/launching pad to Michigan. Over the past 15 years, UM has only had 2 kids transfer in. Fact of the matter is that UM Admissions department has some wierd bug up their B-holes about accepting transfer credits. I don't care if it's English 101 or SuperCalculus 405...you ain't transferring into UM -- per their Admissions department. That's just the way it is. So, I say this to point out that UT is a final destination...not a launching pad.

3) O'Brien is a cream-of-the-crop DT. He just is. Nasty streak and would really push the OLine back in the QBs face. If he selects UT (I hope he does) -- then the Vols are getting a kid with enormous potential and skill.
