You're all wrong. The OP actually was talking about 2 different recruits, Danny O'Brian and I'Spell Badley. For the record, Badley is a Vandy lock according to my sources.

Badass DT, he's Mr. 5.24 and he's special.

Damn, Franklin doin' work. Why didn't we hire him again?

As I understand it, he didn't have a committable offer. Dooley wasn't impressed with his offer list. There was too many BCS programs listed. Also saw that he was, in fact, the first high school student to earn 7 stars. Dooley said, "Fug this. I'm out. Send me yo 3 stars and I'll coach'em up."

Why the public spotlight on O'Brien's phone call?? -- Why not just do it in private between he and the UM coaches?? If he wanted to commit to UM, he supposedly could have done so before Pipkin -- unless UM gave Pipkin first refusal meaning that they wanted Pipkin more than O'Brien. To me, that seems likely but it still does not answer the reason for the very public airing of "the phone call".

O'Brien knows that at worst he could wait it out until NSD and likely be able to sign with UT -- we would gray-shirt someone in a heartbeat to sign him and he knows it.

For now, I am going to stick with my original opinion on O'Brien -- that he has been a silent to us for a good while now. That would answer the question about why he put the public spotlight on his phone call -- just to stir the pot a little.

I hope you're right because on the surface it looks to me like what Pace is saying. That O'Brien is slow playing us to see if UM will take him. If UM offers, O'Brien is gone. If they have no.room, O'Brien will "settle"for us.
