'12 MI DT Danny O'Brien (TN signee)

I have every interest in having a top player signing for TN. Don't let your emotions get in the way of having a high caliber player suiting up in orange for the next 4 years.

I would love to have a top caliber kid in orange as well. My thinking is I would much rather have a high 3 to low 4star kid who picks Tennessee because he loves it and wants to be a VOL 1st...than a mid-high 4 star who is forced to us as a 2nd-3rd choice as his other options did not work out for him. I am not saying O'Brien would not be a great pickup. I would just rather have a kid who is a VOL 1st.

Don't jump to conclusions. Sab is right. I think we are even with Michigan. I know that if I were Danny, I would be sick of the run around he's getting from Hoke.

You guys that are fussing over being the second option need to think about this for a minute. Danny knew there was only one spot for a DT and he waited anyway. Now PeeWee committed and there isn't a spot. If Michigan was his first choice, he would have committed while he had the chance.

Or Pipkins was a silent for a while and UM is waiting to see if they have room. Danny may have been "on hold" for a while now. Maybe he did not commit 1st...because Pipkins was already on board...just not to the public.

If that was the case, and Michigan is floating him out there, you'd think that he wouldn't be flirting with them so much. We've always been in good position here. Michigan filling up is nothing but good news for Vol fans.

You'd find something wrong with a 5 star DT commitment right now, Pace, I swear. We aren't in a position to be picky and even if we were, we'd still take O'Brien in a heartbeat. Who cares about Michigan? They aren't even in our conference.

Who is to say O'b does not like the Vols as his #1- maybe he would just like to have his home school after him. I bet he doesn't want to hear all the time - you only went to UT because Mich didn't want you

I think he's still keeping his options open and he wants to know if Michigan is one of them. It's not like they are going to tell him he has a spot and he's going to commit.

IMO, the sooner O'Brien reads the writing on the wall, and as I've said all along that's that Michigan doesn't have room, the sooner he settles into his choice.

How about the guy who was burning me the other day because I said Michigan didn't have room though? Where is he? The guy who said I was making stuff up?

Well, that is the exact position he has put himself into. I think the UT is his #1 talk is just not being supported by his actions.

Maybe he is a silent to UT and is waiting to take all of his officials. Maybe UT is keeping him silent to lure other fish, Autry. Maybe this is all message board drama created by recruiting gurus to keep their threads going. Maybe the call with UM was to tell them that he was not ready to commit to them.

Do you over think everything? You have to insure you can keep your negative spin on things.

O'Brien still likes the Vols and what NE TN has to offer. I don't think that's going to change. I truly think it's 50/50 Vols and Mich. The call was merely to see where he stands and to know what his options are. That was it.

what do you mean 'maybe'?? there is no maybe about it

It's not over thinking things at all. I am not being negative.....I am just giving my opinion on it. Not all of us are going to view every recruit a big time UT lean. Yes, I get alot of you do..and that is fine. Per my statement...I would much rather take a kid who wants to be a VOL 1st...over one who eventually falls to us as others fill up or pass on them.

But if you take kids who want to be Vols first, then each signing class will have 8 WRs, 8 DBs, and 0 DTs, at least if recent history is any indication.

Like others have said, if O'Brien was wanting to go to Michigan so bad, he would have committed much sooner to reserve his spot. I think he's really torn between Tennessee and Michigan.

I am sure there are..and have been several DTs with interest in being a VFL for this class. Noone said take the 1st 25 kids who commit. Of course we have positions of need.

Unless our coaching staff is putting him off like the UM staff obviously is....torn may be a strong word. I would guess 80% UM-20% VOL. Do I think he would commit on the spot to Tennessee if UM told him they had no room for him....Yes I do.

I was exaggerating to make the point that we don't have an overabundance of DL wanting to be VFL, so we kinda have to take what we can get.

We have lost out on a couple as we slow played them. We just have to hope it all works out for the best come NSD.

Or the kid gets a chip on his shoulder & wants to rub it in Mich's nose and becomes an all American.

For those upset that we may be O'Brien's "consolation prize," you need to remember that we were not Lane or what seems to be Peter's first choice.

Even Lathers said in his most recent interview that he had always wanted to go to LSU. So relax, and let it all play out.

News flash: Very few players get to go to their top choice. That is for the top 5%. Most of the rest, including many fantastic prospects have to find the right fit.
