My guess is that O'Brien is playing this in 1 of 2 ways...
1.) He really wants to go to UM and is giving them every opportunity to offer him.
2.) He really wants to go to UT but because of enormous pressure he's getting from everyone in-state, he's trying to make UM the scapegoat by saying they didn't want him or had no room for him. This lets him pick UT with no re course. He may not commit to us until UM says thanks but no thanks.
I hope it's door #2 but I have a bad feeling it's #1.
If we land O'Brien then anything else after that would be Icing on the cake in terms of this class.
Disagree.
Our three biggest needs for 2012 were DT, DE, and LB.
So far, we've addressed one of those - LB.
Jacobs + O'Brien would be a good start to addressing DT, but we still need 1-2 more solid pickups there.
Then, we also need to add 1-2 DEs to Lewis to have addressed that spot.
Guys like Patterson, Grice, etc. are our "icing," but we're still ~4 solid defensive linemen away from even getting our "cake" in this class.

For those asking about O'Brien and his phone call with Michigan yesterday. As of now it looks like the call happened, but nothing was said that changed how things are looking for O'Brien's spot at Mich. Sorry, I know that's not what you wanted to read. It looks like it will stay a touchy situation for awhile longer. As always I'll let you know if I hear anything else...
Basically Michigan prob. only has 4 spots left in the class. They need 2 WRs pretty badly (which they will get), need 1 RB (going hard after OSU's Brionte Dunn) and 1 more OL (lead for Jordan Diamond and have several other 4*s interested). This leaves O'Brien's spot there in question. If they can somehow find 1 more scholly, O'Brien would be the first one they would call.
And for those that say no team would ever turn down a quality DT, just save it. Brent agreed a couple of days ago that Michigan may not have room for O'Brien.
