The point Pace was making is that the history doesn't seem to be selling well. We need to make some recent history that will catch the eyes of these recruits. It wouldn't hurt if Dan Williams had some success, and Malik Jackson going in the first round would be about the best we could ask for this year.

Again this staff had nothing to do with putting those guys in the NFL so what does it matter.

The whole history of guys to the NFL is a little tenuous these days. This coaching staff didn't put any of those guys there and LT didn't even coach Dan Williams. Until this staff gets their own guys to the league, and I think they will, it's kind of a less effective pitch. What would really help is if some of those guys would come back for fall camp or over the summer. That kind of publicity is priceless for selling the history and tradition of our program and it gets the players and recruits excited.

LT was at least on staff. I don't know what he did, but if he gave a tip here and there, he can tell recruits he worked with Dan Williams. But that's the closest we have right now. Like I said, turning Malik into a first-rounder would be the best thing we can do for DL recruiting right now.

No offense to Thompson, but Monte and Orgeron are going to get the credit for Williams simply because of their reputation in the eyes of many recruits.

All we need to do is win some big games this season. Win and the d-lineman will come. If we could win and Michigan Have a bad season it would really help with Obrian.

I think if the past stars stay involved with the program, the issue of who coached who will take care of itself. I wouldn't think you would want to over-emphasize who the coach was as good assistants...especially good young ones...will likely move on the better jobs or head coaching positions of their own. You want the young kids to think of UT, not necessarily who their position coach was.

UT is very similar to the U in that they have plenty of kids who are now in the NFL. The difference is the kids from the U remain involved and constantly return & re-visit in large numbers. I'm not sure who is to blame for this, but it is a huge mistake IMO to not have NFL alumni around to the greatest extent possible.

However, to me, the VFL program/concept is designed to help in this regard. Dooley should receive high praise for implementing the program, for this and other obvious reasons.

Who told you they weren't? Manning is up there alot,Haynesworth lives in Knoxville countless others return for practices and game day! It just so happens the active ones are earning a living during the season!

Its not really that. Miami gets most of its kids from within 100 miles and its just natural for them to be there.

There isnt another school that has it that good.

Whatever the reason or explanation, those players come back and do so with a passion like no one else. Their pride being from the U is remarkable.

My point is that it's valuable having your NFL alumni active in your program. The lessons they can impart, the influence they can have and the impressions they can make are unbelievably valuable. I might be way off base, but I think getting this sort of involvement from past players is a component of the VFL program.

If I'm right, DD should be highly complimented for it. If I'm wrong, well, you guys just carry on...

Good point. CWM is doing for the first time at UF since SOS left. During the spring game and FNL around 50 former players were in the Swamp.
