I have lived both places as well. IMO, South Florida can't hold East Tennessee's jock. Maybe I'm biased because I was born and raised in East Tennessee.
It's all perception. I grew up in East TN and love it but Miami is one of the best places in the world if you have the money to live in a nice area.
I prefer a place with activity at all times and most parts of TN are dead once it gets dark.
Not to mention that there is no comparison between the women in MIA and TN. TN is also has depressing weather in the winter...I like seasonal changes but can't stand gray skies and drizzle from November to Feb.
I hear what you are saying about having activity and hot girls around all the time. And those factor in to reasons I like Miami. Ultimately, though, after the first few months of enjoying the sight of palm trees, beaches, and hot latin women, I just couldn't help think, "TENNESSEE, TENNESSEE, there aint no place I'd rather be".
Oh, and Danny O! We need your presence.

I've been in a bunch of them and I gotta say I'd rather my property be hit by a typical hurricane than a tornado.
Be thankful every day for the Knoxville winters you had. I used to live there and it is certainly not gray skies for that long. I'm in Michigan now and Knoxville looks like Brazil compared to here. THIS place will make you appreciate the south (ANYWHERE south) to the millionth degree, both weather-wise and culturally.

Me too. Most hurricanes aren't that bad in Florida. They don't tend to sneak up on you and since Andrew, Florida is much more prepared for them. Most people who die in hurricanes in Florida, die from running or testing their generators inside. Self inflicted hurricane deaths. Tornado's are very sneaky though.
