It is easy to see we are in a tough spot in recruiting. Just look at the talk in almost every kids thread about how we are hoping either the team/s who we are recruiting against pass on a kid or fills up so he will pick us. If you look at our current commitments...it's tough to find a kid that we actually won a recruiting battle for to this point. We were in on Shanks but needed FSU and Bama to pass. It didn't happen. With O'Brien/Pipkins/Day it is discussed all the time how whichever ones Michigan does not take we may get. I do hope we can get some bigger name guys in the fold and maybe it will spark some interest before we fill up with project type kids.

Every recruit is a "project type kid".

No they are not.

Alot of kids are able to come in and contribute early if not from game 1 at any program in the country. These kids would not be considered projects. If a kid is looking at 2 years before seeing serious playing time....he is a project. Especially when you consider how our depth chart is. We are lacking big time in the LB department...and I doubt anyone expects to see Henderson or King getting serious reps in year 1. Paters may be ready to compete....if LSU does not offer late and take him.

Most kids coming into a college program, especially ones that have depth, end up sitting the first two years. It doesn't mean they are any more or less of a "project" than the kid who only sat for one year due to less depth.

Every recruit is a project. If not, they'd come straight out of high school and be in the NFL Pro Bowl.

Lucky for us we are recruiting kids to play at Tennessee and that has nothing to do with the NFL or the Pro Bowl.

His friend, Matt Godin, is NOT a DT commit. There are no current DT commits this class. Danny said it yday in chat that he was told by the staff that Michigan would take one DT but he really thinks they'll take 2. I think Pipkins drops this weekend and a slight chance that DOB does too...but I doubt that one.

Don't worry DO isn't committing this weekend or anytime soon. Only thing a Pipkin commit to UM is solidify him as a Vol.

Exactly..NOBODY knows what a kid will do till they get on Campus, Nobody. There are kids that have much more talent than others but that doesnt make them college players. Its all speculation and all you can do is evaluate a kid and hope he works out. But there is not one kid that will definately be a college stud and live up to his star ranking. Yes alot of kids work out that are supposed to but there is also ones that wont. Just like kids who arent expected to do anything can become all americans. There is just no guarantee whatsoever. Good call man..

Sounds alot like what someone who is having to settle for 2 and 3 star projects would say. If you think guys like Clowney, Goldman, and DGB are 2 year projects and are not EXPECTED to make a big immediate impact ...maybe you should work on our staff. If our staff would agree with you..it would explain us stockpiling these 2 and 3 stars...There all the same as the 5 stars right? :eek:lol:

The fact is, no one knows who will pan out the moment they step on campus and who won't. Powell was going to be the baddest man on campus last year.

Our staff isn't the problem. People should see that by now.

Let's not split hairs. I think everyone has to agree every kid is a project...but, there are small, medium and big projects. I'd say the Clowneys of the world are pretty small projects.

Lol, that did read funny. I think what he meant to say is when he looks at UM it will only solidify him as a Vol.

You sound like everyone else did last year around this time. We didn't even have one four star if my memory serves me right. Calm down about the stars dooley will get them in time just like last year. Dude is the definition of a closer

I understand what pace is saying and I share his frustration. The perception seems to be that we are either taking projects that the big boys never wanted in the first place or we are being chosen by recruits only after they know there's no room at any of the programs they truly preferred. It's aggravating because it makes us look like a scavenger program only taking the table scraps that the other programs can't or wont take. As a Tennessee fan that angers me to no end because I feel we are better that. I am tired of being 3rd choice for these kids. I want to see a damn 5 star pick us because we were the ONLY choice for them. Not because Alabama already had 6 deep at that position.

And the fact that you expect that is insane. We are not the program we were in 1998-1999. Football is cyclical; everyone knows this. We are down right now and CDD and staff are doing their best to get us back to that level. Unless you can do a better job recruiting and pulling these kids away from AL or FL, be quiet, continue to be a Vol and wait for the results. :good!:

I don't magically expect this to happen. I'm well aware of where we are as a program. Doesn't mean my pride is hurt any less and I can't come to this forum and vent my frustrations does it?

Vent on Bro. Doesn't change anything, though. I would rather pick up 4 star "scraps" from other programs than to not get them. Who knows how the kids will turn out in the end. If we win, all this recruiting blather, hurt feelings and all will disappear.

Vent all you want. The rest of us will sit back, stay positive and wait it out. Hopefully, we pick up a few big fish this season and get back faster than we expect.

GBO! :clapping:

Somebody needs to inform Mark Richt, Brady Hoke, Brian Kelly, Al Golden, etc. of this fact.
