Sometimes they are necessary....I'm sure he still prefers to have them on a week where he can focus more time on the recruit instead of having to prepare for a game. He wants to devote as much time to these kids and its a lot easier when he's not focused on winning on a given Saturday.Maybe Dooley just didn't like OV's on game week last year because we sucked.
I don't understand the silent committment thing. It basically comes down to the kid is undecided between UT and UM. There is no reason to be a silent commit to any team. When you are 100% sure, you pull the trigger. The coaches may ask you to wait in a case where they are not sure how many spots thay have left in a class but in this case, there is no reason for O'Brien to hold off his announcement unless he is unsure.
