Last year the OL and Defensive Backfield were definitely big needs. But I wouldn't say those two positions were the "biggest" needs. The entire front 7 was right up there with them in terms of needs in last year's class and they just came up short. While they landed a few good individual prospects, they didn't come close to addressing the Linebacking corp and Defensive front like I'm sure they wished they had. Last year they were as far behind in the front 7 as they were on the Oline and at DB.

We will see what happens in this class, but it has to be a really good class in the front 7 for this to be considered a successful haul IMO. And that doesn't mean just signing a bunch of guys at those positions. It means signing a bunch of talented difference makers at those positions, and at least 2 or 3 that can play very early.

Exactly. Agree 100%

Mich guys on the Blueboard say he'll decide after he's done with his summer camps/visits. Claim the are leading atp. Mich is back! lol

When the kid openly states he has no leaders and they draw the conclusion that they lead???? From everything I read, Mich State is a bigger player than Mich. Oh well, we'll see what happens.

It has to be a really good haul for Dooley to have a shot at being here past 2013.

Some here aren't going to like this, but if he can't address the front seven sufficiently over the next two classes, I don't think we should give him the time we all know he deserves. This is big college football; circumstantial or not, a coach only gets so many chances to win. Heck, even Vandy knows that.

I have to agree with you. If we don't get the D line and LBs this year, we're going to have a hard time competing in the years to come.

LOL. I'm sure they have the same opinion about landing the Top talent. Hopefully they succeed.

Exactly! LOL at some of these people. They act like every single guy that Tennessee ends up signing are the only ones the staff ever wanted and they were all guys that were at the top of the staff's wish list.

I'm not as concerned about the "haul" as I am about the "WINS". He can recruit whoever he likes. As long as he wins I could care less about where some recruiting service ranks his hauls.

He better start winning alot more than he loses or he'll certainly be gone after 13...if not before.

Looks like we're in agreement then...

2 immediate helpers at LB, 1 at DT, 1 at DE...1-3 other players at each position that are ready to play by year 2 and we should be good to go on the front 7...

I stand by my belief that it's too early to hit the panic button...this years class is too loaded in the front 7 to believe we can't pull 6-8 SEC caliber players in the front 7 by NSD

This is true. I have no clue what people are seeing when they say Tennessee will be competing for an SECC in '12. They are still so far behind in the front 7 in comparison to the top half of the SEC, that it's just not a realistic expectation at all IMO.

You can always cue up responses like the one you just posted above and the ones that say "it's only June." But which response is fact? Is it June, where we have the potential to make our class better, or is it February, where we are sitting with a broken class?

Dooley had a great 1st full class as the Tennessee head coach, and it only took 4 months for people to start doubting him and predicting his downfall. With all due respect, I recommend just not following.

You mean that's not how it works? Mine=blown :p

True. I think he will need to Haul in order to win though.

I certainly hope you're right. We are in definite agreement about the importance of addressing the front 7 in this class.

Can you point out a few of these posts that you're referring to?

I just don't see the irrationality that you are claiming is so rampant around here

Yeah big orange fever's post. You see a lot of that when people comment about how the talent needs to be upgraded.

It's as though everyone Tennessee signs is who the staff preferred over all others when the reality is a lot of them could very well have been B-listers or C-listers on the staff's list and the staff just didn't get the guys they actually would have preferred to get.

The staff thankfully wants to get elite talent in here or they wouldn't be offering all these guys that are heading to the LSU, Alabama, and Florida's of the world.

Yeah those people are annoying but equally as annoying are the ones who are hitting the panic button in June...

Thankfully...in my experience...both of those types of posters are not the norm here...but they tend to be very loud so it can often seem as if they are
