Because Dooley and staff don't know talent and don't know how to recruit....:)

Seriously though, Saban has praised Dooley's ability to recognize talent. I'm not surprise NS takes notice when UT pursues a guy hard.

True.

But still, Saban needs to get his own prospects!

There may be some strategy in getting us to expend more of our resources on recruiting these guys. If Bama offers our targets, it may just cost us more time and effort that cannot be used on other recruits. Just a theory.

Why does it seem that whenever we get in on a prospect, The Enemy comes calling all of a sudden? It's like they're our shadow. It's annoying.

:bammer:

I hope Alabama offers every propect we do. It means we're evaluating and recruiting with the best of the best.

I can see that logic. I just found it irksome that it ALWAYS happened after the fact.

Come to think of it, it's actually quite hilarious. We saw him first (I say that in a singsongy voice.)!

"When you say a school leads, a lot of people think that you are committed to that school," O'Brien said. "I have always said that I was going to take my time and visit different places before I make any kind of decision."

"I still talk to coach Sirmon, coach Thompson, and coach Wilcox a lot," the 6-2, 290 pound O'Brien said. "Coach Thompson will actually be here on Wednesday morning to watch our workouts. I've been talking to coach Sirmon about coming back down there for another visit."

"I really like the coaching staff," O'Brien offered. "I feel like I relate well with them. I have been comfortable on campus when I have been there. The thing I like about the coaches is that they don't just tell me what I want to hear. I also related well with the players I hung out with the last time I was in town. I still email and facebook some with Jacob Storey."

-VQ article.

O'Brien also said he doesn't know when exactly he'll be visiting, but said he wants to stay 2-3 days when he comes down. He plans on picking a school after his senior season.

Screw that logic. We'll find out on the field if our evaluations were correct. We don't need Bama to tell us.

True. But there are certain offers that stand out to me when I'm looking at recruits' Rivals pages. Alabama is #1 because they almost never miss on guys.

They miss on plenty of guys.

Nick Saban gets rid of dead weight fast

Which I don't have a huge problem with. If you aren't earning your scholarship and valuing what it means to wear the jersey, then it's time for you to move on and we'll fill your spot with someone who will.

I wish we were in the same position to be able to trim the fat. Too much is made of this tactic.

I partially disagree. Plenty of guys do things to get cut from the team - Brandon Warren, Darren Myles, etc.

But there are plenty of players - Daryl Vereen and Rod Wilks come to mind - that have represented UT well and will earn a degree, which is what they're supposed to be doing. Saban runs guys like them off too.

I have to agree with this. While I know not every kid is going to be an All SEC player, a team is built with different levels of player. There are role players on a championship team. I get that Saban likes to cut the dead weight, but IMO...it will eventually cost him. How many times can you go into a high school and recruit players telling them how much you need them and want them to come to Bama only to cut them loose when they do not light the world on fire their 1st year? When parents see what your doing by tossing these kids aside, I think it would have to catch up to you. I know ships are just a 1 year thing...but integrity means alot. Do you think Saban goes into every recruits living room and tells them..."If you are all SEC, you will have a ship the following year". "If you are not...I have to let you go and move on". Something tells me this is never said.

I would love to hear what is said by these coaches. Something tells me you are right.

+1000.

Some of the overly sensitive people might not like it, but this tactic flat out works. It keeps you pretty well stocked year in and year out with the talent needed to win in the SEC.

It would be great if Tennessee could get to the point of being able to do this.

I'm okay with trimming off people who are in trouble off the field or just aren't putting enough effort into it. But I do think that if people are giving their all for Tennessee, we should honor their scholarships.

Maybe that's why he changes coaching jobs so often.:)

I think that is pretty much what Saban has been doing. Getting rid guys that have had off field problems or who have not completely bought into the program. (ie either attitude problems, not putting in the work, etc..).

It's not like he's getting rid of every non-starter or non-two deep guy every year.
