I think this is an appropriate time for me to reiterate this post:
Here's my take:
1) No one really knows what they are looking for that causes them to have such a hair trigger with some kids. Several off the radar recruits have just shown up like this as commits. It could be that the coaches evaluate and have a "score" in mind then when someone shows the right interest with the right "score" then they snag them. It could be as some have suggested that they gauge interest and move on if they calculate that someone is wasting their time and will ultimately spurn them.
2) This staff moves on rather than staying on kids. Kiffin and company decided who they wanted and relentlessly pursued those guys. Dooley and staff seem to decide "what" they want then find someone who fits the bill. I don't know which is better or if either/both work.
3) They are taking some of these guys when supposedly better players are at least publicly still interested. This staff is either that confident or that conceited about their ability to evaluate talent. I guess we'll see when it works or fails.
4) There are few if any "real" insiders. Apparently scooter and a few others work around the program and hear the open conversations. No one seems to know what goes on when the staff closes the door to talk recruiting. No one is leaking very much. They aren't trusting Hubbs or anyone else with the recruiting svcs.
5) Unlike the last two staffs, these guys seem to genuinely care less about class rankings. Kiffin and Cut pretty publicly politicked for recruits to get bumped in the ratings (Taylor and Coleman).
6) As frustrating as it may be for some, we probably aren't going to get alot more info in the future. We will have to wait until they let us see what's under the tree.
