'11 JUCO DT Maurice Couch - UT Commit

I'm beginning to like the future at DT. Couch, Walls, Jackson, plus the guys in development and possibly another impact new comer.

I like our new additions along the dline and hopefully we can add Wright to that, but we still need more quality depth even with the new additions. To compete for championships we have to rotate and not see much of a drop off. Auburn was able to do that last night and it's where we need to be....

Fairley and that D-Line won the game for Auburn, you could state that speed in the secondary helped out too (in running down all the WR's they allowed to stay open)

You are right. Even Fulmer said that DT's were worth their weight in gold... but he still couldn't recruit any his last several years.

There are two ways you get great DT's. You either find them as recruits or build them. Maybe Jeffery just needed a full year for his knee to recover. Maybe one of the lower rated guys will develop? Maybe someone switches from O?

Maybe Ayres will be able to carry 290 and build on his success this year?

Bottom line, if you want to win championships you better have great DT's.

Don't forget Miller. Sounds like he destined for DT. We need Hughes to get his head on straight and that group would go to the next level. I think Jeffery still has a chance to contribute before it's over. He started getting a few reps at the end of the year. I also think Ayers is going to bulk up and be a solid guy in the rotation for the next 3 years.

Ayres apparently has something to play at 265. I know it was desperate times but he seemed to hold his own. If he can actually carry the weight, he could end up more valuable than Hughes.

I am disappointed in Montori's lack of progress and inconsistent play... but especially that he doesn't appreciate the privilege of playing CFB enough to keep his grades straight.

I liked Jefferey but haven't seen anything out of him or heard anything good about him in practice. I know ACLs usually take 1 1/2 years but he needs to take hold of the opportunity. Couch will jump a lot of people in the rotation I believe.

Several have suggested that Askew is not taking football serious enough to make a contribution. Question: Why keep a guy like that on the roster?

Cause you need bodies for the scout team.... When your under the 85 limit... Why not keep them...

So he's playing hard enough to give them a good look on the scout team but not good enough to earn PT?

I know UT has spare scholarships right now... but this seems like an opportunity to make a statement if true.

lol

I am excited and would love for him to have that kind of potential but really. I think he will do well here but those two guys are unreal talents and we have not seen Couch against top level talent yet.
