100% Honesty

Because we are unable to stretch the field vertically. The DB's aren't concerned about our ability to have receivers catching the ball behind them. That allows them to get into run support more easily.

Exactly. LSU put eleven men in the box to stop our our passing attack........and if we just happened to run then, well, they were already there.

What were Foster's second half numbers from UK? Just curious, I honestly don't know.
He
3rd Quarter
3 yard run
7 yards
2 yards
2 yards
1 yard
-1 yard
2 yards
1 yard (Goal line play from the 3)

4th Quarter
4 yards
12 yards
22 yards
2 yards
Completions to foster for 10 yards
3 yards
3 yards
No Gain

Bad 3rd quarter. Pretty good 4th Quarter.

This team gave us everything they had. The sad fact is, we just aren't that good anymore.
Disagree. They started out rough, had a set back against Bama, but ultimately this team is the same team that drilled UGA(4 BCS) and basically gave away a game to a team that will probably wind up being N/C this year in LSU (provided the BCS break down is done fair) on a neutral field. Sounds like a pretty good team to me. Granted we did drop some timely balls and throw some timely picks but I'm impressed with them overall.

This is where I disagree. Everyone wants to rip Ainge and not allow for any excuses. Forget the pass rush, dropped balls, no running game whatsoever., no deep threats, etc...he threw the 2 INTs...not giving him an out there.

But then the same people come back and say Foster never had a chance. I don't think he was met in the backfield on every play. Sometimes if he was, his dancing around probably contributed to it.
LSU didnt meet him in the backfield every play but when they didnt they still had all the holes filled. There was no where to go. That lead to him dancing around in the backfield and sometimes trying to bust it outside which just isnt the type of RB he is/should be. Instead of dancing he should have just hit the hole regardless and got his 2 to 3 yards.

I'm so incredibly proud of the defense tonight. Yes, they gave up like 460 yards, but they were on the field so incredibly long, and they were knocking people around.

I agree. Our defense played like champions last night. And to think that they were the ones I doubted the most...

Ah come on now we all know that austin and ryan karl went to (M)omma's (B)oy (A)cademy. Daddy is probably pumping money into the program just like daddy clausen used to do.

Rogers went to Lipscomb and isn't Karl from Franklin, didn't he go to BGA?

Read the entire thread, now a few thoughts:

Arian Foster is a nice running back, does a good job of running between the tackles. He doesn't have great speed though. Why did we even try to run sweeps vs LSU with him in. I thought that was a stupid mistake.

I know another poster thinks the stat is overrated, but yards carry is a very useful stat when determining a runningback's value.

Foster is a decent back but not great. Kinda like alot of guys on our team right now. Austin rodgers scares noone at receiver. Ryan karl isn't exactly intimidating at linebacker either. These players are decent players. But to be honest none of them should be starting for ut that includes foster.

Foster is about 20x the RB that Karl is at LB and Rodgers is at WR.

Sad thing is if Rodgers could catch half the time he'd be a force.

He would then be the possession receiver that he should be. He is not playing the role most suited for him. He would make a nice slot guy if he was a little bigger. I personally think his roster slot should be filled with someone else like gerald jones.

Agreed on both points

just because he's white doesnt mean he has to be a possession receiver

This is what Foster saw all day. LSU plugged holes all day long.

I'm left with the thought that this is, at the end of the day, another 10-4 or 9-5 team.

How we got there seems less important than the simple fact that we got there. Again.

No SEC titles since '98. No shot at the NC since '98.

Nine years of "wait till next year", and counting.

It's getting old.

go vols.

I could give you a hundred teams who have been where we are for the last 9 years. We aren't entitled to anything. Your expectations are way too high.

You're right, Vicky. I apologize for having high expectations.

I assume, then, that Phil will be taking a pay cut to put him down among them "hundred other coaches"?

Disagree, Tennessee had a shot in 01 and pissed it away.

It is getting old however.

Yeah, my point was that you have to actually get to the NC game to have a shot at it.

2001, Vols are one win away from a BCS title game. And got beat by LSU's second-string QB.

Just another dot on the "map of medicrity".

I was feeling the same way...so many times it looked as if he could have ducked his head and picked up 2-3 or but he always tries to bounce it out and he doesn't have the speed for that and it showed...

Resort to name calling since you have nothing to say that in any way make him better than average, which is what so many of you want to do. Keep living in dreamland. And keep watching people run him down next year. People keep harping on Chad Jones ran him down. Big deal, it would have been any LSU player that ran down. It wouldn't have mattered if it were Jones or not. Keep quoting that YPC over "the year". Ainge had some good numbers for the year as well.

I'm not about to start calling Foster a sprint champion but you are demonstrably wrong in your assessment of Jones running him down. In this video you can clearly see he was about to run down another back by the name of McFadden, who I very much doubt you will descibe as "average", and was only prevented from doing so by being blocked at the last moment. Other than LSU's Holliday and TN's O'Neil Jones might be the fastest guy on the field.

YouTube - McFadden for 74 yards vs. LSU

So Jones is fast, great. I am saying if he had not been the one chasing him and someone else had, that person would have run him down as well.
