You sure about that?

Somewhat yes. All a LOI does is guarantee financial aid to a specific university. Now, he may have already been released from it, so that would mean that he isn't bound by the year sit out rule. I'm not 100% sure on anything with this situation, but he may have to sit.

we still can't be contacting him unless he got a release. hes either already gotten a release or never signed the LOI.

They have to be released by either the school or an NCAA appeal after signing a LOI. If not, they sit a year.

EE's never actually sign a LOI. The rule isn't the same for them.

I would love to see this kid be able to play this fall. I am kind of worried that Palardy will be doing so much. I know he is a stud and if anyone can do it, he can but we need to protect that golden leg. Not to mention how this could help field position, especially for an offense that everyone believes will suffer. The better the field position, the better chances we have to put more points on the board, even if it is Palardy putting 3 on the board.

We need a back up so if palqrdy gets injured, you do not want a kicker doin all 3 things at once. Darr can be redshirted

Ill take this kid! Let him boom the punts and Palardy can concentrate on kickoffs and FG's! Special teams have been a problem for a loooong time!

Whats wrong with him sitting out a year? Cunningham is a decent punter.

Darr was the number one ranked punter so I think your wrong, but I wouldn't mind having two amazing kickers on the team.

just because palardy was rated as a kicker. i dont think you realize how much of a freak palardy is. If im not mistaken, he would have easily been the number 1 punter had he been rated for that.

I hope we get him....the kicking game is very important....him and Palardy would make a great combo

as CDD pointed out in an interview earlier this off-season and as should be common sense. It is very difficult for a player to do all 3 phases of the kicking and even 2 is hard. Kicking and punting are all about repetition and doing certain things the exact right way.. Focusing one one is often better then 2 or 3 simply because of the different mechanics involved. This is why teams very rarely have the same guy doing punts and kicks especially at the collegiate and NFL level. it happens a lot more often in High school simply for the fact that finding kickers at that level of any talent is harder.

Hmm maybe he could make an appeal to try and get out of his LOI? I mean I would love to have him but we do also have Palardy coming in, he looks like he could handle on the kicking jobs.

Didn't the article say that he got his release from Fresno State? That means he is a free agent...If we need scholarship space it looks like Dixon won't qualify this year...so that could be one alternative.:clapping:

Both dudes are 17 or 18 years old and have never laced it up for UT. Give them a chance to be on campus and see what it's about before giving both the starting nod. Do you know we do have a pretty good kicker now that Lincoln has stepped aside and cunningham has experience. Usually big name programs will not give scholarships to K/P because there is so much of difference in HS and college and who knows what you are getting. You've already got this guy as a backup in case the other frosh gets hurt? Dude you are cracking me up!:lolabove:

Yes, I have a full release of my Letter of Intent from Fresno State,” Matt Darr told BarkBoard.com via text message Tuesday evening.
The U.S. Army All-American punter says he obtained his release from the Bulldogs last week. He is currently visiting Tennessee coming to straight to Knoxville after visiting LSU. He says he has no other visits scheduled at his time.

Darr verbally committed to Fresno State days before signing day decommitting from USC in the process. He verbally committed to then Trojans head coach Pete Carroll the summer before his senior season. However, after Carroll left USC for the Seattle Seahawks, Lane Kiffin and the new Trojan coaching staff never formally contacted Darr.
