top quarterback cameron newton, a 6-foot-6, 245-pound prospect from blinn cc, texas, has committed to the tigers. Newton, originally from westlake (atlanta, ga.), had narrowed his choices to auburn, mississippi state and oklahoma.
"as an athlete, my job is to make the best decision for me and just put it all out on the table," newton told espn affiliate web site auburnundercover.com. "i'm not in high school anymore. I'm a junior college kid that has two years to fulfill my dreams as a college football player."
the standout signed with florida in 2007. After a year in gainesville, newton transferred and led blinn to the junior college national championship in 2009 by rushing for 655 yards and 16 touchdowns. He completed 204-of-336 pass attempts (60.7-percent) for over 2800 yards with 22 scores.
Newton will have two years to play two at auburn, and will enroll in january in time to go through spring practice. He is expected to compete for the starting quarterback spot vacated by senior chris todd.
