lol...wut
As bad as I hate to say it...that is a decent point. Newton coming in gives this team something either way...even if he were to be a bust as a starting QB. He gives you a real red zone threat...much like Auburn does with Cody Burns, and LSU did with Perillou (before he was dismissed) in the SECC game in 07.

Bringing in Simms, it's an all or nothing prospect. If he's a bust at QB, he's not going to be able to help your team anywhere else on the field.

It's a gamble either way, but IMHO Cam Newton gives this team a way to hedge their bet...and that could be a hell of a combo, Bray running the offense and using Newton on key 3rd down plays and redzone situations.

The only problem with that is, for us to land Cam he would have to be guaranteed the starting position. This is the main reason why I think we don't take him. If he doesn't start, you are going to have a disgruntled and disruptive player on your hands and that's bad news for recruiting. The scenario described would never happen.

Serisously?!

Hardesty > Newton...everytime.

You can always tell guys like codyg have little knowledge of the game. They always go to the Wildcat as they're end all be all. I hate it. Houston Nutt and Tony Sporano should be shot for bringing it back.

Newton is going to MS ST to run a spread offense anyways. In Knoxville, we actually run a real offense, therefor we need a real QB. Don't waste a scholly otherwise.

Hardesty sure did do good in the redzone againt ucla I know if we had Newton that one game we would have won. No doubt about it.

You cant be serious....???? What are you basing this on? If Hardesty couldnt pound it into the end zone.....the Newton wouldnt do it either. That statement just makes no sense.

Newton is 6'6 260 hes is a freak of an athlete he would have gotten in the endzone easily im not saying he is a better RB than Hardesty but I would guess that he is a better redzone back I think because of his ability to throw out of the wildcat or power it in.

That's your opinion, but the fact is...this staff as well as the last staff believes it can be an effective change of pace in some situtations.

I certainly don't want to see us turn to a spread offense, but it IS effective at times...the G-Gun worked well for us at times the previous few seasons, and this staff has Nuke running it in practice...for a reason. Worked great as the first offensive play against Auburn.

So, in the Redzone Newton gives CLK more options and the opposing defense more to have to account for.

You must not know anything about football then... :lolabove:

So because he is 6'6" 260 you automatically assume he could have gotten in the end zone when one of the best RBs in college football couldn't? Makes perfect sense. To suggest Cam is a better redzone RB than Hardesty is

Uh...why are we comparing him and Hardesty, when they are two separate positions. Having both of them in the backfield as a threat is a load on any defense...that's why I want Cam > Simms

So Newton sat out the first quarter due to disciplinary reasons? That should leave a good impression on our coaches.

This^^^^. Everybody needs to look at this...

One of Cam's receivers, Dexter Ransom, is Rival #1 JUCO prospect. Anyone know if we have interest? 6-4 217 4.4 speed

Word is he can't make it into a SEC school. Looks like he will end up at either Kansas St. or Arizona...

Wasnt Tebow the best short yardage back in the nation last year...yeah he was but I dont think he was any better of a running back then Wells or Best. But Cam would probably be a better red zone back with the ability to throw and run it out of the wildcat package oh and ask Dennis Rogan if he is a good runner or not.

I did. Dennis Rogan wants to know where you live.

I noticed that Oklahoma offered Cam out of HS. He's got the talent. The arm. The height. Sab, LV explanations? He just must not be as impressive as I think he is. Im just so depressed that Simms is about to be our next QB:banghead2:
