He'll be getting a call now that Marve picked Purdue.

No he won't, the guy won't even get an offer after the coaches see that he can't throw worth a crap this season.

We need to look at the Cali Juco QB if he is good eough.

I think if Newton can throw the ball, and tears it up in Juco, he will get an offer. But he has yet to throw a real pass since high school, and may not be a pro-style QB, so who knows...

Having said that, I agree with you about the Cali Juco QB, Lamaison. He has already proven that he can play in the Juco's, he is a pro-style QB, and he can come in and be the 3rd stringer in 2009...

whats the word on Lamaison is he getting any attention at this point? Just havent seen any updates on this guy in the past few days.

Is he available to play @ a 4 year school in '09 or '10?

He can play in 2009. His recruitment took a huge hit cuz colleges didn't really know that he was available for 2009. But he could come in as a sophmore this fall and be the 3rd stringer behind Crompton and Ginger...

There hasn't been any news lately on him. The last that was said was that UT staff had gotten his film to look at. There prolly won't ever be much news on him cuz if the coaches like his film and offer him a scholly, he will commit on the spot. The only thing to look for is if Chaney or Reaves head back to Cali. They'll probably wanna see him throw in person before they offer...

thanks just havent seen anything on the threads about him in the past few days

Are they seriously on the same team. Sweet. Cannot be a bad thing. Any other guys on that team that we are recruiting.

Coach O is out in Cali today and through the weekend, so I wouldn't be surprised to hear of a few more commits.

well, his JUCO teammate just committed to the Vols...

Okay, let's think about this.... Coach O is out in Cal. recruiting a JC team and gets a committment from a LB. I would bet that Newton was the reason that he was there. I would say that Kiffin's Crew is all over Newton!!!
Go get'm boys!!!:dance2:

Who cares! We don't need some leftover UF spread qb. Hope he goes to MSU or anywhere but here. He's just another troubled kid like Marve. We need to stick with a couple of bluechippers out of high school.

And start a freshman? That'd be fun.

I dont understand why people do not like Newton, the kid is an athlete and has freak size for his speed. Why not take this kid if he wants to come here? What could it possibly hurt, our QB situation isnt exactly bursting with talent. The worst that could happen is that we turn him into a TE and he ends up being a waste of a scholarship, and he joins the list of many.

The kids got grat upside and a whole lot of raw talent, i dont see where it hurts to have this kid on the roster.

Because he can't throw? Or does that not preclude someone from playing QB in a down-field, pro-style offense?

When a JC QB comes in, he wants to play QB. We don't need the distraction of what could happen if he doesn't want to move positions and his mere presence could hurt actual QB recruitment.

Do you really want a QB on your roster who has been dismissed in the past for doing stupid things? You expect better and demand it from the leader of your offense.

There is nothing "Manningesque" about this kid, he is Brent Schaeffer 2.0

The coaches will have to see if he can throw the ball in actual games before we hear anymore from him. He hasn't thrown any real passes since high school...

Terrell Pryor would be a better comparison. I think he could be every bit as effective as Pryor.
