ohh boy...

I just don't even know what to say to that

You don't have to agree but they have similar frames and athletic abilities. Granted, Newton doesn't seem to have the awareness or poise that Pryor has.

Newton could be used in a similar way to what Pryor was last year, though. Especially if we could establish a power running game to protect him and use our defense to control field position.

wow. Bold Statement.

Obviously with less upside. He could be effective, though. He had some great practices and scrimmages at UF when he was staying out of trouble.

Some guys become more focused with adversity and maybe getting kicked out of school made him grow up and want to take advantage of any opportunity he gets. I'll take a guy with something to prove any day.

So you vol4212 tell me that he cant throw? Well whats the difference between Newton and our current QB's then? I mean im just saying, if neither of our QB's can throw and NEwton is freakishly athletic, Id take Newton. Im just saying, this kid would be another ++ athlete to add to the team, it really couldnt hurt. We havent signed a QB yet, and itll be a dogfight for us to get a top QB, so i dont see any harm with this.

Our QBs can throw better than Newton. They're just retarded.

Anyone who wouldn't take Newton is retarded. The guy is an athlete and we need him period, if nothing else, for QB depth. For all we know, he could end up being an All-American. He has nothing but upside.

Our QBs can throw, Newton cannot, nor will this staff just take a kid to take him... they've already shown that.

He has ZERO understanding of how to read a defense and execute a proper route tree. You can't say "well our QBs aren't any good, why not add another QB that isn't any good in a pro-style offense?" That doesn't get us back where the program needs to be.

If Newton was such a great catch, don't you think our coaches would have already offered? No, they aren't touching him until they see him throw the football at his new school, which he can't do at the level required of an SEC QB in a pro-style offense.

If all it takes is being a great athlete, let's just throw Bryce Brown back there at QB.. he can run better than Newton.

He can't throw, he has already shown that he isn't reliable off the field, he is not a pro-style QB, and he was already on his way to being passed on the depth chart at UF before being arrested.

100% upside! CAN'T MISS PROSPECT!!!

Our coaches must be retarded for not offering him already and handing him the job in 2010.

THe funny thing is is that he is a great athlete, like i have been saying the whole time.. I never said he is a good "Pro Style" QB, eventhough hes never played in a Pro Style system.. so that argument is irrelevant.. But anyways, a kid with his size and speed, could play TE, and WR, both positions he could very well excell at. He could be a great pickup for us and you say why adding him doesnt get us back to where are program used to be, well not taking a QB period isnt where we need to be also... We dont have any top QB's looking like a clear cut vol yet, so insurance would be terrible.. especially when this kid can play multiple positions..

But thats right, you might not know too much about multiple positions...:clapping:

He doesn't want to play WR, he will be a great QB for a team like Mississippi State. He wants to play and can excel at QB in the right system, but UT is not that system, and Kiffin will not bring in a recruit and waste his and their time. He could have did exactly that with Boyd, but he didn't and won't.

We are trying to recruit the top pro-style QBs for Kiffin's down-field passing system. Bringing in a guy like Newton, who cannot do that, does not entice future elite pro-style QBs that this is a system they can succeed in, when they see Newton out there running around all the time.

I'm not sure if they are a player for him, but I could see this kid going somewhere like Michigan or the aforementioned Miss. St. It would be interesting to see him match up against Pryor and OSU, imo.

All this live game evals hopefully won't bite us on someone we really want to land. I know the coaches have seen about everyone except Scroggins I beieve. Maybe someone will step to the forfront during the fall that's STILL AVAILABLE and not feeling SHUNNED by the staff.

A guy I work with, who is a Miss St fan and usually well versed in anything MSU, told me today that the word in Starkville is that Newton is leaning towards Knoxville. Nothing substantiative or ground breaking in this news, but this guy has some good ties down there and is usually spot on with info on the bulldogs.

During the football season. The coaches are wanting to evaluate him during a game to see how he looks.

The same guy told me that he got the feeling that the State folks thought that Newton was basically waiting it out until he could get a better feel of what Kiffin and crew were going to do scheme wise on the field this year. Of course I think that is what a lot of offensive players are doing and will do with us this year.

Again, none of this is concrete. Just some rumblings, but like I mentioned before, this guy most has accurate info more often than not.
