Brent Benedict just committed to UGA and that is a trip. Long way to signing day with this one. I do not believe this sticks.

If he does switch he is just setting himself up with his handle.

I am not one that thinks Richt will be gone this season given his track record, but given that the programs seemed headed in a little bit different directions, so we try to make a run at this kid again?

Listed as possibly the most athletic OL in the country.

I always thought that too. About 3 months ago, I heard that Benedict wasn't 100% sold on UGA and we were keeping in contact. Since then, I haven't heard anything at all. He seems solid to UGA at this point. Who knows though...

My thinking was that maybe they would start aiming at anyone on UGA's board they want.

Rogers and Stripling to name a couple of others.

i think we are really working on alot of their commits. I think were going after kolton houston as well. I think this year recruits will finally realize that they are only going down now. Georgia and FSU is where great talent goes to die

I agree. I know that they are going to make a run at Ogletree for sure...

Vader, I would ask this on Ogletree's thread but didn't look it up. Is he as good as rated? Reason I ask (and I know this upsets ppl, and it's not the best indicator) is that his 40 time is listed as 4.6 if I remember correctly. How could he be a safety w/ that kinda speed??? We know why Elam is so highly rated, as well as Riley, but what makes this kid worthy of his lofty status?

Regarding Benedict, I know we're still recruiting him but does anyone know if he is giving us his ear?...

Ogletree is a stud imo. I think 40 times are way overrated...

I have no idea about Benedict...

Normally I'd agree (like w/ WRs) but not when it comes to the secondary. If his 40 is anywhere close to 4.6 then he's not who we need, imo. Then again, who knows how accurate that 40 time is. Also, I would say his film is more important (which I haven't seen and obviously the staff has), esp since his competition is GA high school football. I'll defer to Kiffin & co but I'm leary.

dude, video games and media hype has brainwashed everyone into thinking you have to have a 4.4 to be good. most 4.4 times arent legitimate, especially at the high school level. a legitimate 4.6 is not okay or decent, it is pretty darn good for a high school safety prospect. there were only 2 safeties in the '09 nfl combine than ran sub-4.5s.

safeties also have different measurables depending on the defensive scheme. some systems want smaller, faster safeties who are better in coverage and some systems put a premium on a safety who can come down and help in run support.

4.6 is plenty fast enough for either. it's not like he will be lining up on a WR in man coverage and having to run stride for stride with him on a regular basis.

Are you serious!!? A 4.6 is a DAMN good time for a safety. He will be fine at that position with that speed. 4.4s and 4.5s are a lot more rare than ppl think.

I think UT would utilize him as a LB bc of his size and our depth.

I agree with you. At 6'3 210, that would be good size for a highschool linebacker. With his size, as well as his speed and coverage experience, he could be one hell of a cover-2 linebacker.

back to benedict. anyone think we may still have a shot? He seems perfect for our scheme. Wouldnt doubt that eddie will be paying him a visit this week

I don't think people realize how ridiculous it is to want a guy who runs a 4.4 but not a 4.6. Seriously? Do you really think that .2 of second means that he is too slow to play?

Good awareness and high football IQ can help you make decisions more quickly. There is a reason that so many "burners" turn out to be busts because they have horrible football intelligence. Kenny O'Neal could have been a pro WR if he was .2 of a second slower and was a lot smarter on the field. BTW, Taylor Mays runs around a 4.55 and the last time I checked he was pretty darn good.

If maze the wr from bama would have been .2 seconds faster berry may not have got the best of him.

All joking aside I would take Brent every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
