I definitely don't want to downplay anything that Monte Kiffin brings to the table when going after big name defensive recruits, but it's pretty important to remember that recruits we're going after were in 4th-5th grade when Tampa Bay won the Super Bowl in 2002. A lot of 10 year olds don't care much about coordinators at that time.

I mean, a lot of us fans can do word association with Monte Kiffin and immediately think genius.

Some of these recruits can't really do that, and view him probably as a very intelligent man with NFL experience, but don't get that instinctive "wow" factor out of the whole thing. Luc is the kind of player that can be a Top 10 Draft Pick one day if he went to UCF.

Monte has us in the mix with Luc, but I still get the feeling that he will be a Gator. JMO

That is kind of the way I am. I am hopeful we can lure the kid here, but if I were betting money right now it would be on the Gators landing him. Again, JMO.

I think we have a shot to get anyone if they make an official visit. Our staff turned a few top recruits last year, I don't see why they couldn't do the same this year.

True, But I'll just bet the diamonds and the other jewels in that ring still sparkle....I bet he wears it on every home visit too :) Nothing like some big time bling to drive a young kid crazy.

I'm not saying that we have no chance but there is a lot to overcome. Put yourself in his position for a second. Lets say you are from TN and they just had a run like UF has had, it would be hard to NOT jump on board. Now throw in the fact that the national media is just gushing over the love fest going on in gatorland, I mean to hear ESPN you would think that it is friggin heaven on earth down there. Well, they do have God as a head coach and Jesus at QB, after all. Then you have us, a team that has been in free fall for the past few years but looking to turn it around. We have a great staff with lofty goals but for now no proof of success on the field. I know that all kids aren't the same but I would tend to think most of them would jump on the proven winner's bandwagon.

All that being said, I have faith in our staff and they have pulled off some GREAT signs in a short period of time. I guess what it comes down to would be:

Is this kid going to be a Bryce Brown or a Jesse Scroggins?

A lot of kids like going to the enemy. They like playing the underdog role. I hope Luc does in this case.

Btw, Doyle, I just wanted to say you have the greatest avatar, name, location combo the world has ever seen.

This ain't right Dale

You also have to remember Luc is from Florida. Monte has had a weekly tv show down here for years called "Kiffin's Corner" His name recognition within this state is much higher than it might be elsewhere.

I can tell you from interviews I have read, believe me he knows how good of a DC Monte is. If I were to bet money though, I can't see him leaving the state but I wouldn't be surprised if it came down to UF, FSU, and UT (Mom apparently doesn't want him anywhere near UM).

You have it wrong about God. He is the head coach at Georgia. Ironically Satan is the head coach at Alabama.

Plus, Monte is well known among HS coaches and frequently shows up a clinics.

Monte is a legend in FL and most every defensive player knows who he is.

Of another board

Jef Luc has commited to FSU
This is per a source with the FSU coaching staff. Look for an anouncement to come soon. FSU has always been his chool of choice but the sanctions against them and the fact that they waited so long to offer him were thought in some circles to have possibly cost them but he knows he will start day 1 and its to much of a risk for him topass up especially with the continuing rumors that Charlie Strong will move on after this season. Miami was never a real option as momma was not letting it happen.

Looks like it's true. Kind of shocked considering the coaching he will receive at FSU. Let's see... Go play for Kiffin, Chavis or Strong? Nope... I'll go play with Andrews or whoever the DC is when Andrews leaves at the end of the year.

Something tells me that one of the SEC schools will persuade him to decommitt from FSU before signing day.

i honestly didnt think he was coming here. but i am relieved a little that hes going to be a nole and not a gator. at least theres some positive in this
