Fulmer later would claim that the 2005 Vols were his most talented team ever. And it's pretty tough to watch that 1998 UT-UF game and think lose with Peyton at QB.

It's hard to watch the second half of the '97 UF game and think UT could have beaten anybody. I still feel sorry for Joey Kent...

Tee Martin was a very good college QB. Peyton was one of the greatest of all-time. When you say Peyton had more weapons to play with you are basically saying that it was his fault that UT didn't win a NC before '98. That is just plain stupid. When you lose a great QB and replace him with a very good QB it doesn't make your team better. Other things had to happen to get the '98 team over the hump. Also, Joey Kent and Marcus Nash were not better than Peerless Price and Cedric Wilson. Their numbers were better because they played with Peyton. Price and Wilson were obviously better WRs, just compare NFL careers. Tee also played behind a better and more experienced O-Line in '98. I'm not bashing Tee. I love him. I'm just defending the guy, who when it's all said and done will be the greatest ever in my book. Oh yeah, next to Charles Woodson of course.

True. So what do yall feel our chances are with Luc.

i believe any chance at Luc depends solely on the product that Monte Kiffin puts on the field this year. yes, we had a good D last year, but Luc wants to be part of something really special and the outlook is great, so far. if Monte's defensive genius translates to the college game, which i dont know enough about the actual game to even guess, then i believe that UT will quickly become a highly feared team to play and Luc could very likely be part of that team.
.

All signs is that we have gootten into Lucs ear, which is an amazing feat. He was totally uninterested in leaving Florida. We were not on his list, and then he comes to campus and will be back for an official visit!

In order to have an idea how much of an impact Monte will have, I submit to you Woody Widenhoffer...who was Vandy's DC during Peyton's time at UT. His defenses were schematically as good as any in the country. He had much less talent AND STILL was able to field a smothering defense. It gave Peyton fits every year. They disguised their coverages and blitzes like an NFL team. Why not?....Woody had 4 Superbowl rings as a DC for the Steelers.

THATThat is what Monte's defense is going to bring...more complexity, sophistication and discipline than college teams are used to. If our offense is humming through the first 2 games, I honestly think we can shock the Gators, just like Ole Miss did last year...mainly due to the emergence of Montori Hughes, Chris Walker and Ben Martin along with schemes totally new to UF.
Imagine what kind of statement that would make to recruits like Luc? This team is FOR REAL!

Luc is kinda scary looking roaming around out there...

Also, I got next pick.... I got James Wilder Jr.

I certainly think he can intimidate offensive players like Ray Lewis did/does for the Baltimore Ravens, and with teams like UF, that is pure gold. :good!:

Another surprise camp visitor that knows how our staff operates. A high motor just like he has. I think he's waiting to see how we do this year. +8 wins and he's a Vol IMO.
