Some are saying now that UT has jumped up to the very top of his list. This is the first time I've seen people in the know sound optimistic about Luc.

Sounds like a good way to get to the front of a linebacker's offer list to me. :)

There's no 2 ways about it...Monte WILL make a major impact on the SEC, and he has more NFL connections than any other coach in the NCAA. Heck, it was Monte's phone call to Mike Tomlin (HC of the Steelers, and former assistant under CMK), that got him to be the keynote speaker of the coaches clinic on campus a few months back...and on very short notice at that.

You think a phone call to him leading up to draft day won't have an impact?

So what's the real low down on Luc? Is it realistic to think we have a shot, or is it a "close your eyes and pray" kinda thing?

From what i've been hearing lately we have a legit shot at landing Luc. Maybe 15%. But he hasn't really made any cuts yet so thats a high %. We are his first planned official visit.

OR......CMK could just introduce him to Derrick Brooks.

Just like he could, using Ronde Barber to recruit CB's. Warren Sapp to recruit DT's.....and Simeon Rice to recruit DE's.

Or....is that a recruiting violation??


How cool would THAT be, as a high school LB, to be introduced to a perennial Pro-Bowler (and IMO, a first-ballot HOF'er) who has nothing but good things to say about your new DC??

A lot of prospects might commit on the spot of meeting a HOFer.

The only way I could see them considering that a violation is if the Pro was charging by the hour, because it would be an unfair monetary-based gift (basically that the recruit wouldn't pay for something that is normally charged).

Just imagine Jaques Smith and Jeff Luc on the same defense. Physically, it's hard to find two guys who are more impressive in this class or any other for that matter.

I hear ya.. I kind of look at the intent of the message.. Most don't try to misspell. They rush, have a buzz or whatever.. I'd worry if they applied the same attention to a resume, job app., etc..

Yeah i agree. Luc lives right by Tampa, so you know he has heard of Monte alot. I am sure Gran will have a part in this too.

For sure. We're going to be able to come at this kid from a lot of recruiting angles. Hopefully we have another stellar defensive year to add on to our resume.

If we got Luc what would happen with Askew? Would he go to the outside? I would love to see a 2010 linebacking corp of Askew, Irvin, and Luc talk about some athletes

No kidding, I was just saying the same thing about having Luc and Irvin. But yes, I think Askew would probably be moved to the sam spot. That would be amazing to watch.:eek:hmy:
