'10 FL CB Cody Riggs

I honestly don't think I would take a corner in this class unless it was someone like Milliner, Fulton, or Shaw. A superstar. We have plenty of good corners now. We need beef, a QB, and a wideout or two.

Joyner is probably the better overall player but a lot of scouts want to move him to safety. Riggs is being recruited specifically to play corner. I know UF is very high on Riggs, now more than ever with the Victor Hampton situation.

That makes sense. Joyner does appear to have a more safety like build than Riggs.

I'm not all that high on Hampton either to be honest.

Aquinas had an awesome team last year. I thought their best skill player based on the game I saw was Dwayne Difton, the Carter kid didnt overly impress me in that game. He had one big gain where the Elder DB mis-timed a should have been Interception and scored on a long pass but other than that didn't do much.

We have room for a couple of DBs. I expect the staff to take at least 1 CB and 1 Safety...

I completely agree about Chris Carter's kid. The only reason he was ranked at all was because of who his dad is.

Aquinas playing on ESPN right now featuring Riggs, Joyner, and UT commitment K Palardy.

No. 8-rated CB Cody Riggs intercepted a pass in the first quarter of St. Thomas Aquinas' (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) 52-7 triumph over Upper Arlington (Columbus, Ohio) on ESPN at Ohio Stadium, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Florida is still the leader in his recruitment but watch out for Tennessee because Riggs seems to like the new coaching staff in Knoxville.

"Tennessee is definitely coming up," Riggs said. "I really like the attitude of the coaches. Some people say it's a cocky attitude but I like that they're bringing a lot of energy to Knoxville that wasn't there before and I'm getting excited about that. They have the same kind of energy Florida has."

He'll be at Tennessee the following weekend for the UCLA game. Riggs will be in Gainesville the next week when the Gators host the Volunteers.

From GatorBait... You have to like our chances hearing this. UT is the only school in his top 5 that he hasn't visited yet, and he still is gaining interest in the Vols...

Thanks for all the info Vader. It is much appreciated. It seems like the fate of the recruiting class lies in the performance of the team in a couple games. A beatdown of UCLA and a win (dream on) or atleast a competitive showing against the Gators will turn a lot of these kids heads while on a visit to Gainesville. Can't wait for the gameplan in the Gator game. Guns blazin', trick plays, etc. Vanilla the first two games unleash the beast during the gators.

He's visited an times when his brother played, not in the capacity that it is now, but he has seen the game day environment.

Yea I know. That was years ago and under a different regime. He has not visited while this staff has been on campus. Big difference imo...

I believe UT has a chance to land him depending on who UF recruits the rest of the way and how UT performs early in the season.

“Tennessee was my first call this morning,” Riggs told InsideTennessee.com. “It was Coach Eddie Gran calling me. We talked about football, how my season was going and how important I was to their recruiting class.”

Scout...I think we can turn this into a battle with Florida.

If we get him, I hope he's more motivated than Gerald was. But I'm sure this coaching staff will do a much better job of making sure of it.

“They told me I was on top of their call list,” Riggs said. “It shows me that I’m really important to them. Getting my first call from them is impressive.”

I liked this quote from the Scout article as well... I hope Gran and Palardy can bring him to UT...

In my opinion I think we lucked out with a visit on the UCLA game before he goes to Florida. You have to think that if the visit goes good then he may be actualy pulling for us against the gators the following week.

Tennessee is making a major push for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star cornerback Cody Riggs, rated fourth-best at his position nationally by Rivals.com. It would be a tremendous coup for Lane Kiffin's staff if they landed Riggs, who said Florida still is his leader but that he likes the Vols more and more. Riggs said he has been impressed with the energy and the attitude of the new regime in Knoxville. Florida State, Notre Dame and Georgia also are in the running, and Riggs plans to take all five of his visits.

Tennessee is battling another Florida powerhouse for another St. Thomas Aquinas defensive back. The Vols are chasing Miami for the services of cornerback Keion Payne, who plans to visit Knoxville on Sept. 11 and Miami on Oct. 2. The Hurricanes are the team to beat here. Florida offered after Payne stood out at UF's "Friday Night Lights" camp, and Florida State and Ohio State are being considered, but this could be a two-way battle between Miami and Tennessee.

“Tennessee called me first,” said Cody Riggs. “They called me around 7:30am and I talked to them before school started. I talked to Coach [Eddie] Gran and Coach [Lane] Kiffin. They talked to me about how they really like me and how they need me to fill that last corner spot they have left."

“There is not a number two school, but Georgia, Notre Dame, and Tennessee all have a shot. They are even and I am going to be visiting them again, so I will see how I feel when I get done with all my visits.”

Per Scout...
