If I'm not mistaken national signing day is in FEBRUARY so he's not dragging it out by any means...i will agree that if he commits to USC that this press conference seems rather superfluous, however you can't blame a kid for wanting somewhat of a national spolight if given the chance

I don't think that is how it happened. From what I understood he wanted to take another visit but his family didn't have the funding to do so. By the time his parents said they'd take him down there, he didn't have time to come. He has wanted to commit on national television all along. With the being said, there is only one time he can do that and he had camps up until that point. I believe he wanted to come out here again but just didn't have time.

"After rumors most of last week that Scroggins was going to announce his college choice with his teammate, Dion Bailey, Scroggins' father said he wanted his son to take his time to make his decision and suggested that making a return trip to Knoxville and/or Gainesville might be a possibility.

But Scroggins needs no more time having arrived at his college choice last week after making a list of pros and cons for each school and weighing that list to make his final decision."

why is the announcement being made on wednesday, the first day of sec media days? i have reserved hope that there is a direct correlation that bodes well for the vol nation.

On VQ, it says that Scroggins stated he wants his father to be at the announcement. I say this means he is USC bound, or that he wants to see the look on his fathers face when he throws down a USC hat and picks up the Big Orange!

That would be nice, but I can assure you, his father already knows where he is going. His father has to big of an influence on his decision for him to not already know where he is going when he makes the announcement.

yea, i was thinkin that, but couldn't bring myself to include it in the post. but why would he do it on wednesday only to pick usc unless it was to be a big "in yo face" to TN? and there's really no reason for him to do that. or.....as you mentioned, it could be a big "in yo face" if he chooses FL.

Are you hinting that he is all Vol?

I have heard alot of talk over the past couple of weeks that he is thinking more about USC because of his family there. I was just wondering if anyone has heard about were he really leans right now as to a decision on what school. I know he will announce Wed. at 3: 30. If I could get some news I would be very thankful. All my news comes from Florida and Georgia fans. If already talked about I dont get on here much.

Stop by the recruiting forum, then go to the Scroggins thread. There is over 8,500 posts worth of information and should have anything and everything you wish to know about the man from Lakewood, CA.:hi:

I know, but its wishful thinking. I would be willing to bet he is USC bound.

I still feel like it smells like a Kiffin press conference coming up. Kiffin wants publicity and what better way to get it than to get a commit from a top QB out of CA who is going to turn down the almighty USC. So I believe he chooses UT and like others have said why would he need a big press conference to commit to USC. Maybe the kid has a big ego who knows but he is a kid and why not live for the moment.

Also who cares when he commits. I understand UT needs a QB but alot of kids wait until NSD, why should his be any different. Lets not hope he is announcing to commit because everyone is pressuring for a commit now and than later decommits. Think about all the pressure that will come off of him. He might be just trying to get people to leave him alone.

I hope it's UT but there's a guy on one of the other boards that's been getting things right as it relates to recruiting at Tennessee. He says that the staff is 99% sure that Scroggins is a USC commit. Don't know but it doesn't sound good.

Interesting post given your perspective. I agree that the press-conference seems over the top for a USC commitment. I mean, its obvious that if he's USC bound he's going to be behind a few other stud QBs... and he's not even in the top 5 QBs in this class. Its kind of presumptuous and over the top if he's staying in Compton. For USC, who cares if the #6 PS-QB commits, I think everyone ahead of him was ranked higher coming out of HS.

On the other hand, given the state of our program... and dearth of quality QBs... the press conference is a very, very big deal if he commits to Tennessee.

The timing is critical for us because we need some momentum recruiting on the offensive side of the ball. Kids appear to be hesitant to commit without a well-regarded QB commodity.
