^ my exact feelings.

Rettig had only one offer. How would that have intimidated Scroggins into signing somewhere else? I think that Rettig was flying under the radar, but the coaches may think differently. I do think that it was funny how we knee jerked when we found out that he was thinking about committing to BC. Someone must have seen something in him.

I do think that Scoggins would be a Vol if it were up to him but that does not look to be the case. He might be betrayed in good ole Dad saying you can go anywhere you want as long as it is 20 minutes down the road. That might be a good thing if ole Dad ends up like Juicy Locke. Only time will tell.

if scroggins is not afraid of Barkley then why would he be afraid of rettig?

UT dropped the ball IMHO

Perhaps, but Rettig was originally waiting to see what Scroggins did, to see if the door opened for him to go to USC or Tennessee depending on where Scroggins didn't go. It wasn't just about who Scroggins was or wasn't afraid of, but also who Rettig was "afraid" of competing against.

I was interested to see if Jesse still had the rock on his myspace and when i was reading what he said about espn coming to his house i noticed he said he felt betrayed... This could obviously mean anything, the kid does have a personal life, but wondering if it has anything to do with his recruitment:question:

Prob girlfriend problems. His girlfriend also felted betrayed

There's a huge difference between Kiffin and Fulmer at this point. I criticized Fulmer because his recent performance on the field and the recruiting trail warranted criticism. The Fulmer-Clawson experiment was a proven failure.

When Kiffin says a certain player does not fit his system, I will give him the benefit of the doubt until I see the results on the field. If his recruiting moves lead to long-term struggles on the field, THEN I will question his decisions. But for now, I will give him the benefit of the doubt, especially given the way he closed out the class of '09.
Sounds like a lot of backtracking, here. You prefer to give him the benefit of the doubt. That's fine, but who are you to tell me I can't have a different opinion? I feel strongly, based on all the evidence (especially the fact that Boyd said himself that the staff tried to get back in after the Army AA Bowl) that Lane rushed to judgment (had almost no staff in place at the time) and made his first major screw up of his career here. If he felt the need to try to get back in, what more evidence do you need?

And even though Scout and Rivals may show Munchie with a UT offer, I PROMISE you that the coaches would not accept a commitment from him. He doesn't have an offer RIGHT NOW.
You said earlier he was NEVER offered! Now, it's he doesn't have one at the moment (as if you know). So, would you like mild or hot...sauce to go with that foot? :neener2:

BTW...just curious, you know his offer doesn't still stand...just how? Getting an offer, and having to wait before the commit is taken is an entirely different issue.

IMHO... He is only making a public announcement on ESPN because this kid thinks he's the shiznit and his head is growing by the day. The kid is 17 or 18 and he is loving the heck out of some back-n-forth from USC, UT, & UF. I mean the kid is a 4* QB for goodness sake... What 4* star recruit makes a huge deal out of his announcement 7+ months from Nat'l Signing Day on ESPN?

The kid thinks he's the crap but instead he's going to be sorely mistaken about choosing USC when he winds up being the one who is cupping his own hands to catch Barkley's crap on the sidelines.

:twocents:
Well let's certainly hope he doesn't read YOUR post and the others like it on here for that matter.

If he goes to USC, then that's pretty much what I'm thinking. If it's UT, it makes more sense, as this team is coming off a disappointing season, and CLK knows the importance of getting Tennessee back in the national conversation.

But dragging this out to commit to USC, is totally unnecessary, and in fact is a hard kick to the nuts for Kiffin and staff since HIS decision to drag this decision process out so long has cost us a handful of prospects.

Because of this, I would have no love for the guy...and yes, this whole waiting game would be all about soaking up the attention. In that case, he better enjoy it while it lasts, cause he ain't seeing no glory for the next 3 or more years at SC. If Carroll honestly thinks you have the goods to come in and challenge Corp and Barkley, there ain't no way in hell he waits til summer camp to offer. If he thinks you're on that level, he's on you like bark on a tree.

Bottom line is....Coach Kiffin thinks far more highly of Scroggins than Coach Carroll does. The evidence is right there in black and white.

I believe it will be USC as well. Its hard to beat Pete Carrol at recruiting especially since Matt Cassel never played a down at USC and he still got a big contract in the NFL (That alone is a huge recruiting tool). So even if he only plays one year @ USC that will probably be enough. I wish he would pick UT but he lives just 15-20 miles from USC, I really don't think he will go across the country to play.

Cassel played at USC, just never started (at QB, that is....he did start at another position once I think). He had fewer than 50 attempts, but he played.

I don't say that to refute your point, just to note that "he didn't play a down" isn't true.

All signs are pointing to USC. Father asked him if he wanted to take another visit to TN or FL, and he said no.

He can be apart of one of the largest rebuilding teams of all time. He could become a legend at Tennessee.....

I hope he picks Tennessee.
or he can be the next Sanchez, no one really gives a damn regardless of what he's told.

It is possible that Scroggins commits to UT on Wednesday, but I think that some of you guys think that if you hope it hard enough or say it enough times, it will happen. I know that as you think about it 'logically', you can only conclude that he should go to UT. It seems to make no sense, if the kid wants to play, that he would go anywhere else.

I just think that the distance factor is not weighted heavily enough in these evaluations. Kids typically stay close to home. We have recruited some west coast QBs in the past, but these kids have typically come from families that could afford to make it out to games, or make it out in the summer to actually see their kid (keep in mind, most of these kids are going to stay in Knoxville for almost the entire summer). Some kids do it, but it is an extremely hard choice...and one that can easily trump playing time, particularly if the close-to-home coaches are telling you that you'll have a shot to battle for the #1 spot...and you are being recruited by UF, UT, AND USC....so you think you're pretty good.

Like I said, Scroggins has a lot of reasons to choose UT...and he may just do it. But, don't undervalue the weight that proximity to home has on these decisions. Heck, Urban Meyer is probably also in his ear, improving USC's chances while 'recruiting' him to UF. We'll see how it goes on Wednesday...but I'm just not seeing it.

We will take a JUCO this year, or maybe a HS kid who shines during his senior season..but it's going to be a bit rocky on rocky top in the QB front for a few years. The staff will probably just be in emergency mode..trying to make sure they have enough arms to run practice in the spring. Then, try to find a decent backup for Stephens for 2010....and then hope that that person can play part of 2011 until our *hopefully* allstar can take over after a few games...

Scroggins commits here on Wednesday. Kiffin is praised once again for his manipulation of the media.:hi:
