After watching the spring camp video of Grayson, I'm thinking his recent visit wasn't for nothing.

He looks almost as impressive as Scroggins, IMO...and I expect him to get an offer right away, if Scroggins goes elsewhere. The wait and see will be for a 2nd prospect in the class

Our offensive coaches never he made an effort to meet with him on that visit. Kiffin was in office and didn't see him.. think there is a hint there??

is cam newton still a realistic possibility? if so, i'm fine with that. i just haven't really heard much of anything from or about him, aside from the intial reports a few months ago.

I was understanding they would like to see him this fall but Hubbs has indicated, we have passed on Cam..

Not referring to that...

I'm saying you shouldn't be able to ask a question and just get a straight answer right away. Somebody should tell you "Google is your friend" or something smart...
You must prove yourself worthy of this brotherhood. Take your lumps, please. And if you don't get enough, kindly ask for more.

What the...

the one thing I truly have noticed about the bunch on this site, they sure try to disect these things a hundred different ways. 80% of the prospects can be read from the get go. It is not near as complicated as many here try to make it.

It is mostly black and white to the prospects. If their school offers, that is it. Nothing else is a consideration whatsoever.

Distance wins out far more than it loses. Close to family, girl friends, high school friends, high school team mates and HOME is a far bigger priority than ANY other thing.

I don't agree with that but sure. Brunetti pry wouldn't back out of WV to come to UT. Chase Rettig went to BC over UT. I think he would have preferred from the start over BC but BC offered first and he said forget Tennessee. SEC > ACC. UT's facilities > BC's facilities. It's not over with Scroggins just because USC offered.

I think that Rettig was our ticket, but the coaching staff screwed up when they made him think that he was not the caliber of player we were looking for here. Then he went to camps and showed everyone what he could do.

We should be sending him flowers and chocolates everyday between now and February.

hooker's saying the same thing on the radio. "just stop if we don't get scroggins so we don't sabotage our chances for a good one in 2011" ie. bringing in grayson
Grayson isn't a warm body. They have that (Rozier).

Grayson won the Golden Gun award at the Elite 11 in Las Vegas less than a month ago. You can't coach accuracy. If you could, then surely Vince Young would've been coached up before being drafted by the Titans.

+1.....not so sure about the flowers and chocolates though..lol.

I need to stop watching JS vid's. The kid looks like one of the next GREAT ones. Grayson isn't UT caliber. Not even close.
I love it when folks make statements like they are fact, rather than their own specualation....

Based on what, exactly? Based on your gut? Maybe it's what you had for dinner yesterday? :)

If you google "Jessee Scroggins" this thread is the 5th main link listed, just above the SC forum. The only places on the web that are getting more traffic than this thread is ESPN and Rivals sites.

...just thought it was worth noting.

Errr... I think they did coach him.

Longhorns
03 58.7%
04 59.2%
05 65.2%
Titans
06 51.5%
07 62.3%

His completion percentage went up every year.

So, you're saying we're in the business of jerking people's chain? Is that what you mean? Invite recruits to visit and snub 'em when they get here....hhhmm really good way of treating someone you may really be interested in later on.

After all, it was our staff that asked him to visit while he was nearby at the Louisville camp? Is that a cryptic message he should've picked up on, saying they were really interested?

I heard that Rettig really performed well when he camped here and most of the coaches wanted to offer. I thought that one difference between this coaching staff and the previous one would be recruiting based on their assessment of talent, not on who was offering or the star system. It seems that they were concerned that no other program had offered and he did not have the name to influence other recruits.

If that is true, then that is similar to how our previous coaching staff recruited.

Pete has such a great defensive mind. Although I don't think he's at Monte Kiffin's level, it has been a real hallmark of his success at SC. The other genius he has is to get someone with an extraordinary offensive mind on his coaching staff. I have to tip my hat to him on both counts.

Concerning the SC QBs, could you tell me which were not CLK's recruits or players he developed? I'm thinking maybe Corps... and, of course, Mustain (who was a transfer). I'm not sure about who gets credit for Sanchez's recruiting and development. Barkley should have been at the camp right? Why wasn't he?

Also, how did he get Mustain to transfer to find nowhere better than the bench as his new home in college football? Did he not evaluate Mustain well, not develop him well, or is it just that he brings in better players behind his QBs?

The guy that got the QB ball rolling was a coach by the name of norm chow. Both Norm and Coach O are the two assistant coaches that put USC on the map. Pete was instrumental in getting both those guys on staff and it paid off big time.

Sark was mentored by Chow and should and would get most of the credit for the QB's performance. Losing him to Wash was a hit but when they brought in Bates, it was a great get and put things back in stride.

As for CLK, what is funny is if you were to ask USC fans about him, many would not have good things to say. SC fans and Alum believe that LK was one of the main reasons why Norm Chow left USC.

He rubbed some of the alums and fans the wrong way and many hated his playing calling. For some reason at USC, he was always viewed as a "gift coach" as he was Monte's son and Pete was paying Monte back for years of gratitude.

I think that Lane is a good coach, heck he was in the NFL as the youngest head coach. I did have a problem with his ego and cockiness at times and it hurt us in some major games but everyone lives and learns....

If I had to pick in order who I would want working with my QB, it would go in this order

Norm
Sark
LK

I think a huge plus in recruiting for Jesse for USC is bates vs reeves as the QB coach

I don't that's the case. They took 3 star players at other positions. I just think they see something in the quarterbacks they are going after the hardest. We have to remember that these are the same guys that have coached and or recruited Drew Brees, Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Mark Sanchez, Kyle Orton, Jevan Snead.... I just think quarterback is the one position they have to find the right fit and aren't willing to settle for until they are are backed against the wall.

The USC fan base hated a record setting offense, back to back heisman's and scoring 38 points in the National Championship? Weird. Lane Kiffin put USC in a position to win that championship. Unfortunately for them, Regge Bush thought it would be cool to pitch the ball while getting hit and the defense stood around on 4th and 5 while Vince Young ran for a 15 yard touchdown. I thought Lane did a good job of calling plays in the National Championship. It's easy to say he should have run a different play then Lendale White up the middle. It was 4th down though and Lendale White never got stuffed. They probably shouldn't have even gone for it on 4th down and putting it in the quarterbacks hands would have been risky.

I tend to agree with that as well. I really liked him and he did well at the USC camp. If UT had offered right after the UT camp, he would have been yours. I think it wasn't untill after his Maui performance and after Rees commited to ND when UT started showing the love and was too late

I am very pleased that this staff does have a system that they recruit to. That is something that we lacked for years. We heard that our playbook covered everything that we could face on the field. The problem with that was that our players seemed more confused or unsure at times as to what their role was. The previous staff just tried to pull all the talent they could and make it fit what they were trying to do.

But as you say when we are backed against the wall, we should at least know where the door is. And I think that we are looking very hard for the door right now.

Jessee will be on the front row in Reeves' QB class versus looking over/around 3 sets of shoulders trying to see what Bates is saying.

Scroggins shines

Under Armour All-American quarterback Jesse Scroggins was impressive throwing the football for Team Field Generals during the afternoon session.

Scroggins has said he will make his college decision by the end of this month and is considering USC and others. He has good size, a big arm and found his receivers well.

One of those was defensive back Dion Bailey, a recent Trojans commit. Though Bailey is being recruited as a defensive prospect, caught several passes on offense.
