Kiffin and Chaney are going to be the real QB coach. Reeves is a recruiter. I do think he is a wink link overall though. compared to who we have.

I agree. I think that he was brought on because 1) Hes Kiffins brother in law and 2) At the time he was hired, Kiffin had been out of the college recruiting circut for some time and needed someone ASAP who knew the talent and the atomsphere of the SEC better than himself.

Well I asked this question in another thread, but Ill ask it here as well.

Do you think our inability to attract a 'top QB' has anything to do with having Reeves as our QB coach? I think hes probably the weakest link in the coaching staff. Would it really help if we had a bigger name in there developing our QB you think?

Our general issue is that we went 5-7 last season and folks want some proof that the new staff will get us back where we belong.

did i miss something, i mean i figured it was 80% that JS will head to SC, but did he anounce it early?

Nope but apparently will next week at a camp. Some evidence that we have that he is a vol is from Ooltewahvol(s) since they know Jacques Smith and Smith talks to Scroggins regularly apparently and is convinced he is a vol. Apparently all the speculation about his Dad pulling him toward USC and he wanting UT is true if this information is true

That would be awesome..12 days to find out.

Yes. Here's why...

When your trying to sell yourself as the position coach, you must actually be the position coach. Kiffin and Chaney are going to be directly involved with the QB's more than Reaves. It's a very complicated issue that may have to be resolved before next year, IMO.
I think there is something to it. To his credit, though, Reaves has paid his dues and you don't land the job as the QB coach for Spurrier without having merit for the job.

Is he the best fit for the job here...not IMHO. Seems like CLK wanted to surround himself with loyal (family) guys and good recruiters. For that matter, it's not much different with Coach Wilson. He has no previous experience coaching WR's. Both he and Coach Reaves bring recruiting ability to the table first and foremost. They are "learning on the job" and have the potential to be good position coaches (based on their resume). Reaves, like CLK, has been around football most of his life, since his dad was a UF QB and a coach as well.

So, in that regard, CLK knows more about his worth as a QB coach than we do. It's hard not to assume, though, that he did it just for the sake of hiring family. Coach Reeves had a good job under Steve Spurrier. He didn't NEED the UT job.

That's right on the money, IMHO. But again...it's not like Reaves was some shmuck holding a "Will Coach QB's for Food" sign, off the interstate ramp, or something. He paid his dues to earn the QB position coach job and RC under Spurrier. That says something to me. Spurrier was a thorn in our side during our glory days, so he's a damn good CF coach, who would still be eating our lunch, perhaps, if he were coaching a better program.

Maybe he paid his dues and maybe he didn't. Spurrier is the real QB coach @ USC. I think Reeves just held the title there just like he does here.

I'm not buying that someone just holds a title. To think Reaves isn't an influence to the quarterbacks position is ludacris.

Well, like TENNanious said, his dad was a QB and he himself was a QB at... Appy....I think. So Im sure he will have input without a doubt. But how much do you think he will actually contribute to the QB development? 50%? 90%? This is my point entirely. If he is solely responsible for QB developement, is it hurting our efforts that 1) he isnt more recognizable to recruits and 2) he came from USCe, where they havent had a decent QB in almost 20 years?

I can't believe I am saying this but if Rettig does come here and has a great senior season. Do you think they would consider Casey as a QB coach? I mean assuming he has grown up.

Can we please get back on topic. I have just spent the last hour combing threads looking for some decent recruiting news and basically all I have seen are pissing contests between posters. Its becoming more and more like GVX.

I saw JB's comments that Scroggins was basically headed to USC, does anyone know if this is firm or just where he is leaning right now?

Any word on Rettig? I kow alot of people on here seem to think if JS heads to USC then this kid will be a Vol, he was ready to committ to BC so I would not count them out.

Just looking for some real information. THX

I doubt it if only because....what would Lane do with Reeves? JMO.

Basically all the insiders, Hubbs and JB are convinced he is going to USC. Sab has therefore switched as well.

Rubber Ducky guy says the coaches think they are going to get him still.

No one is discussing Rettig although I think it was JB who said he is a silent and waiting for the Scroggins announcement to be official.

Due to the negative news re:JB and Scroggins. Some individuals on the board had a little bit of a melt down and had to work out through arguing.:hi:

GVX had a big writeup about this very subject a week or two ago...discussing how qualified Reaves really is despite the perception out there.
Reaves was a QB in college (can't remember where he played), and Spurrier had recently relinquished the job of QB coach to him.
I tend to agree with you on the whole, though. If he were not family, I don't see Kiffin choosing him. Chaney would be the logical choice...and let Cregg coach the entire OL.
I agree, he was likely picked for his recruiting ability and SEC experience. He may be capable of doing a good job, but Chaney's work with Drew Brees and Kyle Orton makes him a better candidate.

I think the plan is to build up his resume and get hired away somewhere as an OC to a lower level team. He is a very good recruiter. That is all anyone ever says positive about him.

Thanks I apreciate it. I understand why a kid would have a hard time turning down USC. Great Tradition, cake walk schedule and the girls, oh my the girls on the west coast
