Droski, are you saying Barkley is no good and Mustain is transferring because Barkley is better?

No i'm saying mustain sucks and is a head case. barkley has big skills, but it's still up in the air as to whether he will be an elite qb (based on his lousy decision making both as a senior in hs and during SCs spring practice). the fact that mustain was briefly actually 4th string last season behind a guy who isn't even at qb anymore at sc tells you what pete thinks of him.

That helps, but it improves the situation at USC for Scroggins. That's not the intent here. :)

From what little I saw of Barkley last fall, he may not redshirt (probably the #2 guy), but he likely won't step in ahead of Corp. There's a good chance Barkley will get as much mop up duty as Cam Newton got at UF. Nevertheless, Jesse counting on Barkley leaving for the draft after his senior season seems to be a pipe dream. CPC threw a fit when Sanchez left early, even though he already graduated, I believe.

If Im recruiting Scroggins, heres MY pitch. I try to make it as logical a decision as I can for him, because emotion will land him at USC.

Id say something to the effect of "I know all these coaches are telling you how great you are. And I think youre a special player too. But looking at it objectively, these are your strengths and here are your weaknesses. You come here and you'll learn from the people who have put players like Leinart, Brees, Palmer etc into the NFL. We'll help you develope those weak areas of your game and make you a first rounder when you decide to leave for the NFL. Oh...and youre already better than anyone we have on our roster too."

CPC could say this as well (minus Brees) in addition to adding Sanchez and Cassel to his list.

Is this correct then?

Assuming no injuries, here's the best case for Scroggins at USC:

USC depth chart with Scroggins:
2009: Corp/Barkley/Mustain/Green
2010: Corp/Barkley/Scroggins
2011: Corp/Barkley/ Scroggins
2012: Barkley/Scroggins
2013: Scroggins (if Barkley doesn't redshirt this year)
2014: Scroggins (if he redshirts along the way)

This also assumes USC doesn't sign a QB who is better than Scroggins in their 2010, 2011, 2012, or 2013 recruiting classes. If they do, Scroggins never starts.

It also assumes Mustain leaves to D1aa after this season and that Barkley doesn't redshirt. If Barkley redshirts, then Scroggins may not start until the 2014 season (his 5th year at USC), meaning that he'd need to redshirt to be eligible.

Barkley could beat our Corp in the earlier years, but that's immaterial as most indicators, at this stage, are that both are better than Scroggins.

UT Depth Chart with Scroggins:
2009: whatever
2010: Scroggins/whoever
2011: Scroggins/whoever
2012: Scroggins/whoever
2013: Scroggins/whoever

Does anyone know if USC lets the 3rd string QB hold for PAT's?

Sounds pretty accurate. Even if we got Jesse and one other guy, he's still the most talented prospect we're considering, whereas Scroggins has 3 former 5* qb's already on the roster at USC and will likely get one for the 2011 class (there's just too much talent in CA for that to not be the case)

this is true right now but will it be in Janaury? maybe but maybe not...
Seeing that he plans to graduate early an make it to Spring practice, he'd have a running start on anybody we might get for the 2011 class. My money would be on him starting outright as a freshman next fall, here...and I don't think even Christian LeMay would unseat him as a starter. Easier to beat another teammate who isn't getting many practice snaps, much less game experience.

he won't start over Nick Stephens IMO.. NS will be starter in 2010

Was listening to Brent Hubbs this morning on 104.5 FM in Nashvile and he thinks that Scroggins choice is between Florida and Tennessee.
He said that his Father is pushing SC because of distance but the depth chart at QB is just too much of a negative.

I wonder if this "one" you speak of can play QB. Is there a thread on him? :p

I'm not sure, but I have been looking for the thread that speaks of the "one" who can and will play QB for the next UT football national championship team.

Can you advice me on how to find that thread with the "advanced search" functions the board offers?

I would love for that to be the case. I have my doubts.

Opinion still the same if Lamasion does in fact come aboard?

I believe Nick starts over Lamaison.

Lamaison is a definite need, for depth.. They don't want to go to spring practice with just Nick and Mike Rozier as the QBs. With Rozier being a walk-on, not 100% he is still here in spring.

Have to have an assurance of at least 2 QBs and really need 4 in spring.

Everybody right now is still new to CLK's system, so it's not like Stephens has a massive 2+yr headstart. If Scroggins has the goods...and I think most of us agree he does, then I'm banking on CLK ushering in HIS player ASAP + Lamaison #2= Stephens transfers to a 1AA next summer

I would agree with you Sab. I would love for Hubbs to be right and do not discredit him at all, but he seems to be one of the only ones that I have seen who is going against the grain here. Too many people seem to have USC in the mix for them not to really be (as well as JS own comments).

But hey, maybe Hubbs knows something we all do not and is holding on to it.
